I gotta vent. I have been looking for a job for a long time. I have been unemployed since October of 2009. It's been rough looking for a job here.

I've been applying everywhere and when i get a chance where my chances are looking great i get shut down by HR!!! The reason why? Because i applied for the same position at 2 different stores. From what i was told, HR got involved when they found out about the 2 different drug and background checks were done on me. HR did not like this and told the store manager not to hire me.
Why???
So you're telling me i cannot apply for a position for a store at different locations??? I had a talk with the Store Manager and he told me i came up as decisional BUT the HR went ahead and told him not to hire me. That is some messed up work.

I feel violated. I would have been making decent money and not depend on selling my beloved items.

The store manager told me he will talk to the HR and see what they can do about it. Man i need this job. I need to support my 3 year old.
Some HR.... and you wonder why the unemployment rate is so high here in CA. It's because jerks like that.

Stay strong bro.... Just keep applying. What position wetter you applying for if you don't mind?

Damn since 09 fam?!?

Were you relying on unemployment???? You try to go through temp agencies? Something is better nothing...

Freaking HR...

What do you mean, I can't throw things at my employees? They're beyond stupid sometimes.

yes, since 2009. Comcast was my last job and they laid me off. I was on unemployment looking for work, but nothing turned up and unemployment eventually ran out. I do some side work, but it's not reliable.

Thanks. I have retail experience. I've applied for management positions, to stock, cashier, customer service etc. In this case, i was applying for customer service floor.

this case was for Office Depot. I was applying for customer service, but they were impressed with my retail background and my computer skills such as photoshop, excell, powerpoint, illustrator and indesign they decided to put me in the printing department. Make more $, but damn HR...
I do have my graphic certificate and i am a semester in a half away from my degree.

Damn, they screwed you over something like that?

Sounds petty

Good luck in the future OP

Our HR wouldn't even have hired you because u haven't worked since 09. Makes no sense if you wont hire the person how are they ever supposed to have recent work

This is where the 'real' networking comes in.  A lot of times, the deciding factor of resumes are screened through HR.  Very rarely would you see a manager go up to HR and look for your specific resume.

It's just one of those things you have to deal with, but it woudl be good if you checked out job fairs and gave yourself more exposure.

That's why you lie, stretch 09 to 12 no one's not going to hire someone that's been out of work for 2 years.

yup! agreed. and that's the problem with the high unemployment rate smh. I've been working since i was 17 and i'm 26. I have great references and my work history is iron solid along with my experiences. Never been fired for anything at all. I've had promotions and all that. It's just sad i can't get hired.

This store manager really wanted me there, but i hope the guy does talk to the HR and solves this problem. I could have been hired if i didn't apply to that other branch.... Thanks for your input and advice.
Appreciate it.

Depending on how precise HR is at where you are applying. My gf works in HR for a bank and they screen like crazy.

So a few moments ago I received mail from NexisLexis company that does background check. I get 2 separate mail from them. Each from the different branch. So, it looks like branch 1 did not send in my full name and on top of that they mispelled my middle name. A misdemeanor popped up and made me ineligible for branch 1. Branch 2 spelled my name correct and no records were found and I was eligible for hiring....

So, I called NexisLexis and the lady explained to me to let branch 1 know they need to resend my correct info in order to properly do a background check. I called the store up, but I guess since I was ineligible for branch 1 HR automatically told store manager for branch 2 (the one I was eligible for) told him not to hire me. Since HR got a hold of my case, they won't resend my correct info. I explained to the store manager that branch 1 made a mistake on my name, but he told me it's up to HR now. 1 mistake and now I can't get a fair chance. What can I do in this situation? I was okay to work in branch 2, but branch 1 made a mistake on my name and a misdemeanor pops up! Without HR investigating they automatically shut me down. =( oh and me applying to two different branches was not a good idea to HR apparently.

I may be wrong here, but don't they do background checks via SSN? That seems like the easiest way to avoid situations like this. I know if I were the one submitting background checks, I'd rather type in some numbers than try to make sure I spelled apu nahasapeemapetilon correctly.

That's what I'm confused. My social security was included, but for some reason branch 1 mispelled my name and they didn't bother to put in my full name unlike branch 2 where they used my social too and spelled my full name out correctly. Branch 1 gets a record while branch 2 comes up clean. Weird.

After all that BS i finally started working this past Friday. Thank God. Found a full time job that pays cool and will be getting raises if i stay committed which i will be.
