I was talking with my boy about the Pavlik/Taylor fight tonight, and he's like, "Why do you hate Pavlik so much, he's from Ohio..." and allthis, and that's when it hit me; I don't like the prototypical white athlete.

You know, they rely on mental toughness and will more than talent. I hate that #%@%.

Like Pavlik, he won the first fight against Taylor due to being a SCRAPPY white boy, that's it.

SCRAPPY. I hate that word.

Other prime examples:

David Eckstein
Ryan Freel
Aaron Rowand
Mark Grudzielanek
Wes Welker
Wayne Chrebet
Ed McCaffery
Ryan Bowen
Tyler Hansbrough
Luke Harangody
Almost every other white college basketball player
Plenty of other dudes I can't think of right now

You get the idea.

Just be flat-out better. Why do you have to depend on that?

Hate that #%@%.

And yeah, I know there are "scrappy" athletes of other races, but you know damn well it's most prominent with Caucasians.

EDIT: I guess I should mention that I'm white for those who don't know.

I feel you on Pavlik, I was mad salty when the ref stopped that fight, I Just don't like Taylor, and I wanted PBF to whoop Ricky Hatton's !%+.

I'd say I understand in boxing but most other sports, race ain't much of an issue.

Probably because I'd be more worried about a black dude fighting me than a white guy.

kinda lol

by the way, i never liked tyler hansbrough

I always think this guy is going to be a bust if he makes it to the pros....

I know where you're coming from.

I do not want a white player on scholarship on Georgetowns team, ever
laugh.gif

I'm also white

I think the media (Brent Mussberger) are guilty of this.
I dont mind it anymore, because if you have half a brain u can see right thru that crap. they do tend to emphasize that the white athlete is "gritty"and a "hard worker" while the black athlete is just "super talented" and "everything comes natural"

smh.gif
O well

*edit, it works both ways too
Just like Ive seen alot of NTers kickin straight garbage about Blacks being better athletes because of genetics

Nah man i appreciate theathlete that has the mental edge on their opponents. They're obviously not as fun to watch as their physically talented counterparts, but watching a dudestraight up out-work, out-compete, out-will, and out-hustle, his opponent is appreciated. The combination of talent and mental toughness is what seperates goodplayers from GREAT players. The great ones not only had talent, but the work ethic as well. Look at a dude like Kobe for example. He's got all that talent, but his super-competitveness is what makes him as good as he is.

So it doesn't matter if they're white, black, or mulatto
laugh.gif
...seeing the hustle player (like david lee who happens to be white) is appreciated.

The only thing I hate about this topic in general is when it becomes a stereotype. If I'm a black player, I MUST be more athletic than most of the comp. Ican't be much of an unselfish, team-first guy. If I'm a good white player, I MUST be scrappy or play really hard. There is no way I could be thatathletic. Commentators are the worst- straight up relay on stereotypes.

I remember reading an article in Slam about Nolan Richardson. He was saying something to the effect that since he's a black coach, people never gave himcredit besides calling him a good motivator.

Wow...I couldn't disagree more. Scrappy athletes>>>>>>>Talented athletes with no heart
