The only thing I really want is to be able to save and restart windows and tabs in the browser like FF. any suggestions?

Macs don't get viruses/adware/spyware.
Well they do, but the percentage is so low that it's a very very low chance.

I realize but it's still a possibility like you mentioned. If you don't get to the root of the problem (assuming it's not Firefox that's theproblem) then installing a new browser may not help.
