Why do players wait until right before the season starts to get a surgery and not in the summer?

depends but most of the time cuz it keeps them from having to work out(mostly football) and who wants to be in the house all summer

Well, Shaq does it because he is a selfish, fat prick who wants to heal while on company time. I wish I could find his quote where he even said as much. Other players, at times, waiver back and forth between whether or not to have surgery or to play through and end up making their decision late.

People who do this don't believe they are on the clock during the offseason. Surgery requires grueling rehab that some athletes don't want to go through during "their" time. I don't agree with it. Sports is a different profession that requires year-round dedication to be great.

i've noticed that too, i think some cases people think if they rest during the summer it could heal itself, or there could be swelling that needs to go down, or probably the real reason, they want to get paid for the full year for 1/2 the work
