iMac Hard Drive Crash (Help)(Solution?)

I've had my iMac about 8 months and today it crahsed put of no where. I took it to the apple store who told me they could replace the drive and TRY torecover data on it but I know it's highly unlikely they will. Has this happened to anyone else? What did u do? I called a place called data recovery onlyto find that I could be looking to spend anywhere from $300 to $1700 Whig I would possibly do down the road but I was wondering of anyone knew of a lessexpensive solution. If so please post or pm me. I don't get my computer/crashed hard drive back for another week ao my game plan is toget everything set bythen. Thanks in advance!

By the way I'm sure it goes without saying but I will be purchasing I time capsule once I fix this all and get past it...

In all honesty, you are gonna have to shell out some bucks for a data recovery service - I would ballpark it around $500. There are a couple of things you cantry yourself (the freezer method) but more likely than not you will need some professional assistance.

Didn't make any noise really. I used to leave it on all the time, only restarted it every few days or so. My external drive should be good to go but theimportant stuff was saved on the computer. It sucks but yea
I'm gonna prepare to spend some money on this. I was just checkin to see if anyone had this issue before. And if so if they would reccomend anybody.I'm not trying a freezer method or anything. It's cool I guess I'll just rock with the data recovery company, they work with NASA and movie studiosso if they can save theyre stuff I'm sure they can save my mp3s and pics.

my hard drive was making clicking noises.... i knew it was bound to fail it was a 160gb Western Digital. One time i turned on my comp and it wouldnt start (this was a secondary drive btw). So I copped a teribyte drive, put the drive in the freezer (NO LIE) and it worked enough for me to copy all the files over. its worth a shot if u have a nother drive and are savvy enough to open up your imac.

Yeah, the freezer method does work. I used it to recover data off of an old Seagate drive.

Put it this way - it won't damage the hard drive anymore than it already is, so basically you have nothing to loste.
