Installing a router

some providers require a host/domain name for routers, without that the router may not pick up an ip

If you have DSL like AT&T:

Connect directly to your modem
Get into the DG of your modem (192.168.1.254)
Change protocol from PPPoE to Bridged Mode
Restart modem

Plug in Linksys
Hardwire from PC to Linksys
Get into the DG of your router (Linksys should be 192.168.1.1)
Change protocol from Auto Config to PPPoE
Put in your ISP's username/password (for AT&T it's either a @bellsouth.net or @att.net address)
Save and restart

Then setup wireless...

Save and restart

Then setup wireless...

BTW, if you are installing a router to a cable modem, since their system protocol is not PPPoE based, you can just wire the router into the "internet" or "wan" port. Just make sure the protocol on the router is in automatic configuration/dynamic.

thanks, i didnt have to put it in bridge mode but for the router i changed the protocol to pppoe and it worked, thanks
