Maybe we've never seen actual prototypes before, but it isnt like info has never leaked on Apple products.. almost everything on the iPhone models was known before Apple confirmed it.
That looks solid, definitely a proto. though. Someone mentioned a killswitch, iPhone's do have a killswitch don't they? In case of a breach in third party apps.. Could be possible they axed it remotely.

i think apples the one who actually releases this shiiii... they release early pics or prototypes to increase the hype.

I don't believe Apple the corporation, is releasing the "rumors" or "spoilers" of products. I believe that comes from people who work closely for Apple and risk sharing info in regards to Apple products. A large amount of the hype comes from Apple Fanboys who render prototype drawings and ideas of what Steve Jobs is trying to create. I think we'll begin to see more 'rumors/prototypes' in the upcoming weeks.
News has been released that ATT has already established a blackout date for the month of June and July. The new phone looks to be releasing soon.

i dont know how legit it is, but ive read a few articles that state the same thing, call or tell someone some info, never in any writing. Its basically free marketing, people like to know this information they believe is top secret

Update 2: In response to commenters and tipsters questioning the differences between the Twitpic and WeiPhone pics and the "San Jose" photos; these are likely handmade demo units, therefore there will be minor differences between them such as the screws appearing and then not appearing. We believe the models which will roll off of the production lines in China will look like these devices, likely with some minor physical tweaks, but they will look like these phones. Other major design decisions are already set in stone, such as the rumored glass back, which is present on both of these devices (Daring Fireball's John Gruber mentions them here). Yes, there are very minor discrepancies between these photos, but you need to understand they are from a very small pool of hand-built tester units. It is incredibly likely that the next version of the iPhone will look like the photos you see in the gallery below, and we certainly wouldn't claim that if we didn't have good reason to believe it.
