Ipod Connection Problems....Blue Screen Windows Error Message

Every time I plug my Ipod in Windows craps out and goes to that blue error screen with a bunch of gibberish and I have to restart my laptop. I've pluggedin my external hard drive and flash drive and both work fine. How can I fix this Ipod connection error?
