"Porsche money b"

Yes ya know that line very well :lol so it brings me to

Something i wanted to speak about for a second.

Back when i was 17 and i got my first real job living

In NYC, i had a choice with da meager pay i was

Getting: get a whip & continue to dress like a bum

Or stay on foot, take da train & da rest of public

transit but upgrade my wardrobe. Thats sounds like

A decent choice for a young cat like my self, but back

In da 90's -early 2000's there wasn't a sneaker

culture to get sucked into so choicing getting fresh

Didnt lead to da massive rabbit hole it does now. As

My sneaker copping days tapers into just a couple

Of pairs a year and my interests shifts into

automobiles, i wonder if some people this generation

Never make it out of da hole, and instead of

eventually saving money to get their first whip, are

They now using that extra income on more and more

Kicks in general. I remember when having more than

10-15 pairs of kicks was EXCESSIVE. We know this

Generation's economy is crappy so da money isn't

There like before, but are we getting to da point

where da posters kids hang on da wall is footwear

To show their passion is now footwear instead of

A countach like da 70's babies that came before us?

Discuss.

imma speak on my area an my area only

minorities always in the latest kicks, white folks in the latest whips

Im still young but id never choose shoes over a car.

Public transportation is the worst

first thing that came to mind.

I feel like you gotta dedicate not just more money but also more time just to get regular retros now

yeah I'd spend time on sneakers, but that time was me learning bout the shoes themselves, not schemin bots to buy them

can't even hop in and buy a shoe here a shoe there because you have to be up on what's going on, is it twitter? is it ndc? what's the latest bot? etc

Its like that here but not latest really.

FOR THE MOST PART young minorities stay fresh, young white kids keep their cars fresh. Older heads of both groups seem to be more into cars and bikes.

Of course there are plenty of exceptions.

guess it depends on a lot of factors.

idk but some people just need to get their priorities straight.

Maybe some people realize they can't be fresh with the whip they have, and thus they resort to getting fresh with shoes/apparel.

yep

I understand the point but it's way harder to maintain a vehicle then it is to cop some kicks every 3 weeks

It's called maturing. It's not cool to have a small room filled with stacks of sneaker boxes that you never wear or wear once a year.

I don't think it's binary though. I think there's way more options nowadays for individuals to waste their disposable income. In your experience, it is sneakers and getting fly that offered an alternative to spending money on a car. And that's probably true for a lot of people on this site; however, for other individuals, other factors have contributed to an erosion of car culture so to speak

Dudes with kicks rock them for other dudes ... at least IMHO

In addition, I have never had ***** thrown at me because my fresh kicks, but in my whip - ALL THE TIME!

yeah all of this is ridiculous now, plus what got me into kicks in da first place was locating old models of "deadstock" (da original term)

kicks, and actually having to look for em. all driven by nostalgia cuz nike for da most part wasn't retroing anything at all, it was all about da latest and

greatest. hell i remember when they FIRST retroed da bo jackson air trainer SC's and that being a HUGE deal..it was more nostalgia driven versus now it

being all about "who got da most limited releases" which i can give 2 effs about if i think da sneaker is ugly. with that said da limited gimmick is a more

potent way into hooking people in than nostalgia because you''re always looking for that next "high" and im afraid certain people wont be able to escape

that hype machine. when that happens i think its taken away from people being interested or even buying a car.

Never been a sneaker head, but its crazy how much much money people spend on lebrons and jordans. People get killed over this ****. Forsome shoes.
I just dont.understand.

Jumping out the whip in clean sweats n some air max >>>>>>> jumpin over puddles at the bus stop in my 200-500 sneakers

But ninja I see what your talkin about all the time when I'm in my city

Bro,

I wouldn't say it's eroding da car culture, but it may be eroding to some peoples personal and financial growth. If you never escape the retail/consumer frame of mind and learn how to be a producer at some point, you'll always have what you do dictated to you and you'll never be a "boss" or self-made. The car culture is alive and well. Come to Atlanta and you'll see it on all levels. From hoopties on 22"s to import tuners and high end euros.

How do you feel about your current automobile situation? What are you eyeing?

Sincerely,

Seeko

back it da day, this used to happen quiet often actually, i was never my intention of getting fresh because i was as much of a sports fan than

anything, but i definitely wasn't mad at that side effect.

Surprised you'd say that Ninja.

In NYC, i think the car culture is alive and well and "sneaker culture" is in no way eroding it or even coming close.

On a related note, that JDM scene is the closest thing to the sneaker culture.  They go hand in hand.

Why not have both? Not saying sneaker collecting per se, but I don't see why one can't have two habits at once. Many of the people on this board have had both cars and sneakers for years.

Also cars are just another material item that can be interchanged with buying something else. Some people prefer blowing money on travel, starting new businesses or having a well furnished home. People aren't necessarily making the choice of sneakers over a car.

i fail to see how the two are intertwined...

im an avid bus rider and 90% of the people i see on the routes i take are either dressed in business-casual attire or blue collar folk trying to get to and from work.

the only people i see rocking Jordans, Lebrons, and such are what appear to be the HS kids.

I'm beginning to fade off of kicks and save up for other things like a new/old car. Shoes to me are cool but a car that gets you from point a to point b and will help you in the future is more important than looking fresh. You can looks fresh when you're making good money in your later years but as of right now shoes for me take the backseat.

To me a decent car is much more important than having 250+ pairs of og kicks in the closet.
