By that token, neither does the Superdome, what with the post-Katrina renovations.
Not sure about giving all these votes to a Dome that was pretty much designed specifically to attract the Saints....which have been the model franchise for ineptitude. It has very little 'home' history, compared to Yankee, Fenway, Wrigley, Dodger, Lambeau, etc. If you bring up recently closed stadiums, the list grows.

Because the Dome is located in a warm-weather city, it's going to be on the short list for rotating events like the Final 4/BCS Title Game, and would naturally have a better chance hosting a game where something memorable occurs.

... IT was renovated. a little paint, new tiles etc. yankee stadium was BULLDOZED. ITS AN EMPTY FIELD.  "yankee stadium" is less than 5 years old.

Anyway, as others have already stated, I think the old Yankee Stadium (although now not active

) is the most historic, and then MSG for the US.  idk about the world...

EDIT:  Wow, didn't even think of the LA Colosseum. That has to be up there for sure.

And I also second Estadio Azteca as far as historical events.

Spectators outside Estadio Azteca

Estadio Azteca has hosted a variety of international sporting competitions, including:

Both "game of the century" and "hand of god" occurred there..
word, estadio azteca takes the cake. Its one of my goals to go to a game del Tri in the Azteca.

How can you guys watch that crap? Soccer is nothing but a snooze fest.

I would rather watch Jeopardy!

LA Coliseum>
Only stadium to host the olympics twice. Not to mention the other big events.
