Just delete itunes from your HD and download it again from apple.com. I had the same issue about a week ago. Your music library should be fine.

uninstalled and reinstalled it but the same error about the apple application support not being found pops up

Try this
1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose "Open with WinRAR".
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose "Repair".
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally.

thanks, but now I get this error saying "quicktime failed to initialize error -2096", but I have quicktime already installed.

try removing itunes and quicktime. restart your computer. then install quicktime first and then itunes.
