Now that the JaMarcus Russell era looks to be officially done in Oakland, where does his career rank on the list of all time busts?

I'm saying he's number 2 behind Ryan Leaf. I cant defend him. In this day and age of modern day scouting you figure you shouldnt miss like this on a number one overall at worst you'd expect a Alex Smith or David Carr type of player.I guess you could make an excuse that if JaMarcus played for great established team like the Steelers or Vikings he could be a mediocre starter. The Raiders are a pretty dysfunctional team but Gradowski did okay last year .....so?

I want to give him number 1, but anyone with a brain saw this dude wasn't all the way right. He should be sent to prison for robbing Al Davis like that. Only in the NFL can people rob old people and get away with it. Someone post the press conference picture of him wearing the Nike button, He looked GRIMEY back then

Akili Smith

  I don't think He deserves it either.

It has to be someone with the proper build up, hype and pieces in place. Peter Warrick comes to mind before Akili.

I can't rank them ahead of JaMarcus because those dudes.

Akil Smith-I barely remember him playing. Its like they gave him a season to do it and they figured wasnt good so they benched him forever. I also don't remmeber any attitude problems like Russell and Leaf had.

Tim Couch- He actually had one good season and led them to the playoffs. I think he got put on a bad expansion team with a horrible scheme(Chris Palmer) and a coach(Butch Davis) that fell out of favor with him. Look at his stats they arent that bad. I think he's gets a bad rap. I think those incidents where he called out Cleveland fans skew the verdict on him.

Raiders O-Line was a joke. Definitely not getting starting position, but I can see him in a place like Miami

people say this but they didn't watch Raider games. our line might not have been the best but you don't understand how many times Russell missed wide open receivers when he had plenty of time.  prime example, opening night against the chargers, line gives up 1 sack, a couple of hurries, JR  was 12/30 w/ 2 ints, missed numerous wide open receivers.

Russell didn't fail because of our line, he didn't fail because of inadequate teammates, he failed because of himself. 

i tried to stick up for dude well into this season but he's was  a mess.

came in to say this...I went to LSU wit him, came in freshman year with this dude...never saw it, his peeps use to run around with "Jamarcus for the hesiman" t-shirts...i was like u kidding right!....Cool ppl but def shudnt have been #1

Jamarcus Russell was an absolute BEAST at LSU....but he was raw. Sure, at the time he was worthy of the #1 overall pick...but hindsight is 20/20, and it's come back to bite the Raiders in the @+%. That being said, a lot of Russell's problems could have been corrected if he had an ounce of worth ethic. Dude does not care about football, and once he got his guaranteed money, there was ZERO incentive on his part to live up to his end of the contract. If you play QB and the NFL is your job, it's inexcusable to show up to camp out of shape and unprepared. This guy is a prime example of how money can ruin someone....

All that being said, I'm sure you'll appreciate Jason Campbell and his professionalism.

Half the throws I've seen when I had to bare to watch Raiders games here in NYC, he couldn't even reach his WRs. He is the biggest QB to be drafted #1 and bust like he did. Sad thing is that this guy doesn't even try to get better.

When you're 6'6" 270 w. a CANNON for an arm and you comple close to 70% of your throws in the SEC (while having a 28/8 TD to INT ratio)...you're most likely going to be a high pick and no one is going to blink an eye if you go #1 overall
