TOKYO — Japan's government decided Tuesday to start releasing treated radioactive water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean in two years — an option fiercely opposed by fishermen, residents and Japan's neighbors.

The decision, long speculated but delayed for years due to safety concerns and protests, came at a meeting of Cabinet ministers who endorsed the ocean release as the best option.

The accumulating water has been stored in tanks at the Fukushima Daiichi plant since 2011, when a massive earthquake and tsunami damaged its reactors and their cooling water became contaminated and began leaking. The plant's storage capacity will be full late next year.

:smh:

Ummmhmmmm.

Well, in a few years if strange forms of tumors begin sprouting on forms of sea life, and then begin to die off with the coastal areas not being trusted due to the appearance of contamination? Public trust of what people eat is incredibly important.

We'll see who was right.

Yeah I remember reading about this coming maybe 2yrs ago. Keeping all of that radioactive waste in one place isn't a good idea, and honestly they should've been doing this, but ppl here the word "radiation" and freak out.

The idea is to gradually to push the tritium which is a hydrogen in its radioactive form. Think of how you use hydrogen peroxide on cut. If by chance it hurts it barely hurts right? No imagine you make yourself a cup of what and you put a tiny drop of hydrogen peroxide in it. You aren't gonna taste it right? Well that is what Japan is doing w/ said radioactive waste. They want to put a small amount of tritium in there pacific w/ the sea creatures every now and then so that the sea creatures & the sea creatures can remain safe.

If you fill half of your cup of water w/ hydrogen peroxide & drink it you're going to notice the difference that that isn't just water. You even might get sick, and Japan is trying to prevent that.
