Jason Taylor has been released

Saves us 8mil against the cap, so I really think we are gonna do one of two things...

1. Get a FA DE on the cheap

2. Make a trade (Julius Peppers)

I believe our 1st round pick is going towards an O-Lineman in the upcoming draft....

that being said...as hyped as we all were (maybe a little skeptical) to acquire Taylor when Daniels went down last season, that 2nd round pick we gave up isbiting us in the !@+ since we just released #55

Another brilliant move by Vinnie in showing little to no regard for our draft picks...it would have been onething if Taylor produced, but to give up a pick as high as that ONLY to release Taylor a year later doesn't make a whole lot of sense...again

I think you guys should have kept Taylor, especially with the signing of Haynesworth. You just gave up a draft pick for him no more than a few months ago andnow you let him just walk right out the door for free.

Releasing him saves us some money

I do think we should of tried to trade him instead of just releasing him

We gave up a 2nd AND a 6th round draft pick DoubleJ... and again.... Vinnie hasn't been doing ANYTHING to get credit for this offseason.... Snyder has.

It doesn't take a heck of GM or whatever his title is to sign a few dudes to Mega Contracts.

Could have used those picks for another bomb rookie in the weeds like our boy from UCLA...and of course the 2nd round pick was wasted on a dude who playedabout 10 games and got 3 1/2 sacks..

How many have we wasted in just the last 4 years

I'm not tripping though our D will still be official

& a 6th?????

Laugh all you want at that MyT...but w. Snyder and Cerrato running the show ANYTHING is possible...remember if it wasn't for Cinci TURNING DOWN this trade(2 First round picks...TWO), Chad Johnson would be a Skin....nothing is out of the realm of possibility with them two dummies running the show.

*edit* MyT...u also laughing at the dude who said our D will still be official? We were #4 in the league last year....the loss of Jason Taylor will not have amajor impact of anything that happens on the field...

LMAO!!!!!

Dancing with the Stars calf injury....... lol DANNY SNYDER FTFL!!!! 8.5 mill, 25 days of work for Taylor....

would've liked to see how he would of performed with Haynesworth and Carter on the other side..

looking forward to the draft though.

I mean what's funny? Are D was ranked 4th without Haynesworth and Taylor was hurt all season

They should have kept him and released Andre Carter. He is a serious BUM

I still say this was a bad decision on the Skins part, they lost two draft picks in the process, paid J. Taylor for 1 year, got hardly any productivity out ofhim and release him for FREE. Not good business sense IMO.

To me the ******** are making some huge mistakes.

1. Hanesworth is good, but not $100 million good
2. They shouldn't have got rid of JT

Same hater in every skins thread...smh...

Here's an interesting article about the situation via Extremeskins.

March 3, 2009 - Scott Lilliston, Senior Writer/Analyst www.drafttek.com

Lost amongst all the media ripping, after the ******** free agency haul, was quite an interesting story. Though the free agent windfall was spun in its usualanti-Skins fashion, Skins fans who have followed their team for more than a few years had to perk their ears up just a bit.

Defensive end Jason Taylor was cut this week after being with the team for only one season. Pundits immediately pounced on Washington for cutting Taylor aftergiving up two draft picks to retain his services and getting minimal production from him. Those pundits forgot that on the first day of training camp lastsummer, two of the Skins top 4 DE's went down with season ending injuries. Simple supply and demand dictated to the ******** who brought in the best (or sothey thought) talent at the position with the means they had available.

Lost in the shuffle of all the on-air hoopla was the "why" Taylor was cut and it is the "why" that should make Skins fans smile.

As it turns out Head Coach Jim Zorn, who had an eye on Taylor, requested that he work out with team trainers during the offseason. Taylor missed 3 games lastyear and dropped dramatically in tackles, sacks, etc, from his 2007 numbers. Zorn spoke to his coaches and identified how they wanted to handle the player theycompensated so highly to make sure Taylor brought his level of play back up to par.

Zorn and co., while attempting to negotiate Taylor's contract, wanted a $500,000 clause thrown into the mix. Taylor would not get the half million if hedid not work out with the team in the offseason. Taylor declined…and it's the next part that sent the message to everyone on the team.

…they cut Jason Taylor.

You want the other guys on the roster to get a wake-up call? Toss out Jason Taylor on his ear for what amounts to a hill of beans in NFL compensation. I thinkthey got the message.

One other thing to think about here is that it is very evident that Taylor's heart is not in it these days and ******** fans should thank the brass for notgetting duped out of another year long contract.

Greg Blache, the ******** Head Coach in charge of defense had to be licking his chops as he was about to line up Taylor next to newly acquired DT AlbertHaynesworth. Taylor would likely see nothing but one-on-one blocking for just about the entire season, yet he couldn't bring himself to put forth theeffort to work out in the offseason in DC? I'm afraid you tipped your hand there, Mr. Taylor….and Zorn trumped you.

I'm betting the rest of the roster is playing their cards a little closer to the vest.
