who said it was all about lyrics? i like the technical side of rap just as much as the lyrics ... flow, cadence, metaphors, melody, rhythm, intensity etc... etc... but most of all, it's about a thing in music called aesthetics ... which is basically how it makes you feel when you listen to it ... Jay stays in his lane too often and does the same !!$@ all the time which is understandable because he doesnt have the versatility to do much other than a straight forward rap to a beat ... we saw what him trying to step out of the box sounded like on blueprint 3

now is jay one of my favorite rappers of all time? of course ... but honestly he doesnt have the skill/versatility to be in my top 5 ... and let's not act like he makes the best songs or has the best hooks etc... he makes some VERY mediocre tracks just like the rest of the rappers out ... he has the longevity and is relevant after this long so obviously he has talent ... but to act like he's a cut and dry #1 is laughable ...
