Ya boy got a job offer today from Sprint after my interview!!! I'm so happy man, place is right around the corner from my house and I of course know the area well. Filled out papers for background check and all that jazz, and he said that he likes m and I could hear about the Background check as early as today or on Monday. He said he wants me to start training this Monday, hopefully.....feels Benny/Steve/John Goodman!
Congrats!

Any HR specialist on here willing to help me out by looking at my resume/cover letter. I've been applying to a bunch of jobs, mostly universities. I make it past the initial HR screening and they pass my information on to the hiring department, but I never hear anything back.

i use to post in this thread all the time... dont know why I quit.

still havent landed anything but have been on so many interviews. Its super competitive out there guys. and I just got my masters smh.

been without a job since mid July...started getting unemployment in September and my girl moved in with me to help me with bills.

im still at it tho. just been a real difficult time...gotta stay prayed up

I appreciate it bruh! Ull get you're opportunity soon, just keep plugging away and build up your strengths to fit what the job wants, seems simple but I know it can be hard to always find characteristics that match what they want and to be able to articulate/show examples of you displaying these abilities from past work/experiences...

For my fellow non-workers, are you guys doing anything while not working that pertains to the job field i.e. school?

question...what's the best answer to give when an employer ask you to name some bad qualities about yourself???

i've heard different answers ranging from naming insignificant qualities to telling them that you have no negative qualities...

which one works best for you guys???

To be honest and in my opinions, never say you have no negative qualities...comes off arrogant and a bit full of one's self.
What I like to do is just simply flip a "lightweight positive" into a negative example: when asked this question, I reply that I am a "Perfectionist" and then I go on to say that I consider it somewhat of a negative because I love to perfect jobs and tasks that I have, and sometimes I get so focused on things being perfect that I tend to focus solely on one particular task. I go on to say that I love to have things done correctly, efficiently and the correct manner and being a perfectionist tends to make you like this...

You catch my drift

I work on-call but I haven't called in to work in about 3 weeks. So, I picked up an internship in the IT field, which I've trying to get into. Its non-paying but I dont care. I need and want the experience which has been great thus far. Hopefully, they'll add me on full-time come December. If not I'll try to find work elsewhere.

Before I had the internship, I'd either go to work like twice a week, go to the gym, video games and apply for jobs in the between time. I also read books about entry-level IT jobs and attended job fairs, looking for IT companies in particular.

Kinda off-topic, but anyone every train teenage kids in athletics? Im thinking for a side-gig to train 2-4 kids a week on improving agility, speed and football techniques...any one ever done something like this? Doesn't have to be football in which you trained someone...

I didn't go to school for 20+ years to get a "Job." I want a Career, something that I will enjoy doing.

I agree with this. It's not enough to get a job. The goal should be a career.  Hell my boy has two jobs (one working at Mcdonalds and the other at a Gas Station) and I make most of his income on unemployment. Working at White Castle when you've graduated college isn't a career path you should settle on.
I had a interview with Creative Group last Thursday and it went really well. My recruiter said she should have no problem finding me work (mostly contract  and contract-to-hire jobs starting at $15/hr )and their benefits are excellent. She sent me two assessment tests yesterday (one in XHTML and one in CSS) and asked for my resume without the cover letter, which is a good sign that she remembered me. Unfortunately, I got a 78% on the XHTML and a 65% on the CSS. (keep in mind that i'm a graphic designer primarily, I picked up web design as a skill during my first real job in my field). But I did research and the average score for their assessment tests is a 50%. Hopefully she can set up a interview or two for me really soon

From what all my professors are telling me, that's not the case any more.

Yea congrats my dude!

I got on with two jobs now (one seasonal) but Ima try to grind and save as much as I can now with these two jobs. Money is the motivate yall!

Still working at Sears.
So far I've had interviews for

Sony

Best Buy

Sony turned me down, buy Best Buy I got a real good feeling about it.

Update: No update yet from the staffing agency I took the assessment tests for earlier in the week. But I do understand that theyre very busy. However, I got a call from a car customization place that wants me to come in for a interview for a graphic designer position.

Ok I'm back in the workforce

Question:

Filling out the Equal Opportunity section on online applications, yay or nay?

I've been selecting "Choose not to identify" for all of the positions I've been applying for.
Would I increase my chances if I actually identified my race?

I'm black btw.

thanks in advance.....btw, I started this thread like 3 years ago, good to see that it's still goin

I separated them into two sentence paragraphs.  Example: As a *insert title* with so and so, I increased revenue by 40% followed by yada yada.  You can use point form also, bullets might make it cleaner.  Just try to fit everything neatly on one page.
