It's true

But it's usually for older people but man that store is small and stays busy just trying to make some extra paper so I can get back in school
Also check out redbox, my homeboy is trying to get me on as a field specialist( basically you just make sure the machines have movies and work) but if push comes to shove looking at Walmart, argh

everytime ive gone in there which isnt alot i only see older people at the actual cashier, all the young are doing other stuff, i need that 13 an hour though idc what i do

I haven't been to any of them. I signed up but I havent heard anything yet. Google "How I paid off my $90,000 loan." That's where I got the info from. It should be on Money Forbes site or something like that.
i woke up ate some breakfast and got around to going to all the aldi's to apply....first one i goto told me they arent hiring even though the ad i saw had that store posted was from 2 days ago they told me to goto a different one on the other side of town, that store had a hiring sign outside and a lady told me they weren't hiring there either, but are accepting applications saturday at that store for the area :rolleyes this is the second time this week ive gone somewhere to follow up on a lead and it was false, ive never wanted to give up more

What's really good with these 5 minute interviews by these big corporations tho?

I'm not trying to rustle jimmies, but I swear they just have me come in to see what color I am. Smh

im not really a good source for employment advice but a few years ago coming out of college, a lot the older, established people i know suggested i try to get informational interviews
Informational Interviews

What is an Informational Interview and How it Can Help Your Career
Skillfully used, an informational interview is one of the most valuable sources of occupational information. While it may cover some of the same ground as printed material or information on a company website, it presents opportunities for an intimate and flexible inside view of a job field unmatched by other sources. The informational interview communicates the first hand experiences and impressions of someone in the occupation, and is directed by your questions.

Stressless Interviewing

An informational interview is less stressful for both you and the employer than a typical job interview. You are the one in control. Questions can be asked that may not be strategic during a first interview (i.e., questions regarding salary, benefits, vacation). You can discuss what is done on a day-to-day basis and relate it to your own interests and feelings. Beyond the advantages of gaining valuable career information, the informational interview provides the opportunity to build self-confidence and to improve your ability to handle a job interview.

How to Conduct an Informational Interview

You should regard each interview as a business appointment and conduct yourself in a professional manner. If you have made clear, in advance, the explicit purpose of your interview you will, in all probability, find your contact an interested and helpful person. Remember the appointment time and appear promptly for your interview. You should neither be too casually dressed nor overdressed. Regular business attire is appropriate. Be sure you know the name of the person you are meeting, the correct pronunciation of his/her name, and the title of his/her position.

Informational Interview Questions to Ask

Because there are so many questions you can ask in the informational interview, individuals sometimes take notes during the meeting. A limited amount of note-taking is justified provided that your contact is agreeable and that you don't interrupt communication between the two of you.

Sketch out a brief outline of the topics covered and the information gained as soon as possible after the interview. This will require only a few minutes, and will insure that you remember the important points discussed. Later, working from your outline, you can construct a more detailed report of the interview.

Follow Up With a Thank You Note

Write a thank you note to the people you have interviewed. Report back to them if you have followed up on any suggestions. By building strong rapport with career contacts you enhance the likelihood that they will offer assistance with your job search when you are ready for the next step in the job search process.

Gonna be moving out to Omaha in a few months and Im striking out left and right looking for work. it hits me right in the feels. :smh:

keep them talking, start asking questions

That's the thing..I did and after that they ended the interview on me.

I've had this happen to me as well. Matter of fact, I had a 2nd interview with a company a few weeks with the head guy and I kid you not when I say had I not asked questions the interview would've been done in 5 minutes or less. Everytime I've had a short interview nothing has come of it.

@chiva, good job and congrats dude.

Keep hustling though... $10 is good but there's always more out there.

Definitely. Put in an app. Along with my résumé and cover letter at this other spot that starts you off at $14. I have a friend that's going to try and put in word for me. He's been there a year, and is getting almost $17 now...

Started an internship today and next week I will already start getting paid. Making $15 an hour working five hours a night and I think five days a week.

I had the weirdest interview last week (sr. admin assist / graphic design).

I was on my way to work (called in late) when a chick calls me and says, "Hi, Michael, can you interview over lunch with the CEO", I'm like, "ugh, sure, I don't have a resume, so I have to go home and get one" and she says okay, and gives me the address of the restaurant. So I call my job, tell them I won't make it in today, rush all the way home, pick up a resume, rush to Coasta Mesa. I show up to a Greek Grill restaurant, sitting outside, waited about 15 mins and the chick calls me, says come inside if you're here. I come in, meet the chick (im guessing his secretary/personal assistant) and she says order whatever you want.

I order fries, lol.

Anwyays, skipping to the interview, guy was intimidating, short - buff dude, aesthetics. Straight up said he's an '***hole'. Says he's been shot 35+ times (shows me stitches on his left arm), says he hates the cops and has been in a coma for 3 days because of them. Has 2 guard dogs at the office, his office windows are bulletproof. Has fired 10 people in the last 3 months, one was a graduate at Georgetown, and the other was Stanford, said they were book smart, but lacked everything else. Told me he doesn't take crap from NOBODY. If I have to ask him a question about a task and he can answer it under 30 secs, im consider 'useless'. Ask me to tell him about myself, so I run down my past job summary, dude literally looked like he did NOT give a **** about it . I felt he was trolling me.

He gave me a serious of questions, said these are asked at top firms to recent college graduates (this isn't a firm position btw and I'm not a recent grad). I'm paraphrasing these questions because I don't know exactly word for word he asked me, maybe one of yall heard em before.

1. 6 squares to your left, 6 squares to your bottom, you can only move 36 spaces, how many squares did it take you?
- I said 3, he said the answer was 266 :wow: . He said "how did you get 3" and I said, "6 + 6 = 12 x 3 = 36. He said he didn't care about getting the right answer, but the logical I used behind it.

2. If I have a monitor and I need a certain plug, how would you about finding out which plug you need?
- I said look for product code on the back of monitor, go to the website of the product or google it. He said, "why does everybody say Google? I hate Google. Why not cut that Google out and just go to the product website. Which I replied, "I did say that, I was just giving another option".

3. Your at the end of the fork road, 2 doors in front of you, one has a treasure behind it. In front of the doors are a man standing, one is a liar, the other is a honest man. You dont know which man is which and you can only ask them one question regarding the treasure. Which door has the treasure behind it?
- I was stumped. I literally spent like 15 mins on this questions while he ate his grilled chicken. I must of came up with 30+ different answers, all of them being wrong he said. I said, "well I can read a liar based off look" and he replied, "your on the phone". So I said, "well a liar could be hesitant, maybe a hiccup in his voice", and he said, "no, no, dont make this more difficult, you can not hear his voice". Dude basically shot down ALL my thoughts. I dont know what my final asnwer was, but he said I was partially right. Meh.

Dude liked my graphic background but HATED the fact I use Android. He told me "I hate Android", "Im an Apple guy, ill buy you an iPhone since I don't want you working with Android". He ask me what I thought of the app he has already, I thought it was ***** lol. He also said they're rebuilding his house, but from time to time ill be working from there. He also built a gym inside his office, "I tend to workout throughout the day, and I listen to country and trance... so your gonna have to deal with it". After an hour and half lunch, I hate maybe 6 fries total, him and the chick ate all there food, dude said he'll send me an offer sheet tomorrow.

The next day - afternoon, the dude sends me an offer for $10 , I turned it down, money was too low and his attitude and persona was straight up creepy. I know for a fact I would end up quitting 2 weeks in, not a good mark on my resume.

I forgot to mention, towards the end of the interview, I told him, "I forgot to give you my resume", dude turns over his iPad Mini and was like, "its all right here", I look at the chick like, YOU ****** MY GAS. If I would of known, I could of stayed nearby, instead of racing on the freeway home to go get my resume >:

People really need to start applying to jobs to gain experience and not think about the money (if you dont have any major bills to pay).

Fresh out of college and expecting a 45k salary in an administrative position? No way.

Take what you can get for $10-11 and build your resume with experience.

You'll definitely notice a change from employers calling you back after you build some experience.

Good luck.

Had a panel interview Friday for the Department of Correction as a Rec Officer. Pay starts at $40K-50K. Like a few others above me said, interview was super short, probably 20 minutes. Asked me the most basic questions. I'm thinking with all that was going on up here on Friday, dudes were exhausted and interested in the news, just trying to get it over with quick. They had been interviewing all day. Hoping the short interview wasn't a sign of something else :\

Does being employed while looking for a job hurt you?

Serious question

I work part time right now but i want to get an internship or job more related to my major

i feel like having the job would make other employers think I'm a job hopper.

My friend and i recently submitted resumes to a big company. Resume format was similar but he got a call and i didn't and tbh, i had the better GPA and stats. Only difference was that he was unemployed at the time.
