ok dumb question but here goes: what part of the colorway makes it "cement"? Is it just a certain shade of grey? Not just on this pair, but the Jordan 3 and 4s (and any others called cement) too.

Yep. The original color designation was "cement grey," and they used it a bunch in the late 80's. Unfortunately somewhere along the way, it turned into a catch-all for any Jordan shoe that has a combo of black/grey/red/white.
