Just how much does everyone trust the word of our government? (Add Corona to the list)

Do you know that when they seize major drug busts, all the drugs that are confiscated, they sell right back to overseas countries so they can get themselves out of debt from other countries. True Story. Government is crooked, believe me or not but thats what happens.

So many people want government to do things for them but it must be government in the abstract because it the actual, very unpopular government, that would be administering your education, housing, career and health care.

I keep an open mind on everything. I know the government lies so that makes me skeptical about them.

That's a good point. I'm not overly political but I think most would agree that a lot of people caught up in the 9/11 conspiracy hype tended to be more liberal. Well if you think the government would be malicious enough to kill 4,000 of its own citizens, why would you be in support of letting the same government regulate your healthcare and take a higher cut of your taxes?

It's funny because there's always a cyclical change in the presidency and congress where whoever takes over is seen as an improvement and whoever left is the bad guy that they're getting rid of. When in reality the two parties are not ideologically that different compared to party systems in the rest of the world, and greed/corruption is hardly confined to one party.
While I don't trust everything the government says, I expect that at the most basic level the majority of elected officials aren't evil enough that they'd agree to kill 4,000 innocent people for what amounted to hardly any political/monetary gains in the end. I think Maddox summed it up best:

While that type of plot could work in North Korea or communist Russia, it would be pretty hard to keep it secret or convince everybody that would need to be in on it that it wasn't a reprehensible thing to do. I know you can point to a lot of things that weren't ethically/morally kosher that the government has done as evidence that they are capable of doing wrong, but you could only do something like 9/11 if you were straight up evil. I'm not willing to believe that such evil is that pervasive within our government.

Not that you shouldn't question things or keep an open mind, but it seems like there's an awful lot of people in here who whine and complain or point the finger about everything the government does (or could have potentially done). Obviously it's good to stay informed and have an opinion, but IMO that bitterness and resentment towards our government is often misguided. It's easy to be suspicious of authority you don't trust, but we have a LOT of freedom compared to much of the world and are pretty much allowed to go about living our lives as we please.

I have cousins in Cuba and I guarantee you they'd get down on their knees and thank God every day if they were able to live here one day. My cousin went to university and worked his !$% off to become an engineer; you know how much he makes? About $30 PER MONTH. His grandmother was an artist and saved up for years so she could open up her own shop to sell Christian themed greeting cards/stationery, only to have it forcibly closed down after a couple years when Castro's regime took over. I can't even begin to enumerate all the simple things we don't even think twice about having that my cousins have gone their whole lives without. Point being, while our country isn't perfect, there's an awful lot more to be thankful for than there is to complain about.

To many unfulfilled conditions to accomplish such a thing. And are u !%$@@$% serious with this? If you didn't take notes, the firefighters and such still ran in there, proving their uninformed status of the situation along with the policeman and the rest of the country. Although, I wouldn't chalk this up as the doing of our 'government' per say, but a few people within it who wielded the most power. Regarding our freedom, we don't actually have that much. If we did, why wouldn't our country spend more on education? On Healthcare? On social services? The list goes on and on...look up. There is a political theory, the name of which eludes me at present, where the government that gives the people a little power, yields little victories to the people at a time, will keep the governed satisfied enough to overlook the atrocities that the government is responsible for.

everyone is greedy and self interested.this is a fact. how are people in government any different? its not like they become altruistic angels once they get elected to office.

read up on "public choice theory."

Doesn't mean everything is a conspiracy either. Just use common sense and be willing to do your own research.
^ My man, couldn't have said it better myself. I don't follow politics closely, but in my opinion, you don't have to, a lot of it is common sense. OP, you sound like you are in HS, you're on the right track kiddo, keep it up. I think the general public is stupid as hell, and our government takes advantage of that.

I COMPLETELY agree with all of this. We don't have a perfect country, but we live in luxury compared most of the world and we can change things for the better if we do our part and vote for what we stand for and protest on what we disagree on. With facebook and youtube, it's easier also to spread ideas and start movements. In this country, I've noticed more than any other country, people always stand for their ideas and protest. This, in effect, makes alot of disagreements amongst each other which in times (like now), divides us. For this reason, it seems like we are always in turmoil and disarray, but this is what makes us a progressive country. As individuals, we should do our research and stay informed so that the things we stand for are based on logical-thinking and genuine ideas but, also, learn to comprise sometimes for the sake of what's better for the country (democrats working with republicans, left-wings working with the right-wings,etc.).
Kind of went on topic, just had to rant a little.
