Fans don't want Johnson to get record
Embattled Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is 75 yards from becoming the team's all-time leading rusher.

And some Chiefs fans have a problem with that.

An online petition started by Chiefs fans asks general manager Scott Pioli to deactivate Johnson and keep him on the sideline so he cannot pass Priest Holmes for the team rushing record, or join the team's Ring of Honor at Arrowhead Stadium.

Holmes holds the Chiefs' rushing record with 6,070 yards; Johnson currently has 5,996 yards.

"While we are thankful for his service, we feel that Larry has been a black eye on the organization and has no business being mentioned" among the team's all-time greats, the petition reads.

As of Wednesday afternoon ET, at least 1,400 signatures had been collected.

"We are asking you, as fans of this team, this organization, and of the pride that this city has in the Chiefs, please deactivate Larry Johnson. Please do not let his name sit atop the all-time rushing leaders in Kansas City Chiefs history," the petition says. "He has never represented anything close to the values that we have for our Chiefs and it would be another dagger to the fans that continue to support this proud franchise."

"We are asking this as a favor to those of us who have supported this team long, long, long before you were brought in," the petition continued. "We will support you through thick and thin -- you will find out that we are a loyal, loyal bunch. ... However, allowing Larry Johnson to attain a record is something that can never be erased."

The Chiefs suspended Johnson without pay through Nov. 8 after he questioned coach Todd Haley's qualifications on his Twitter account and twice used a homosexual slur. On Monday, the team reached a settlement with Johnson, reducing the amount of pay he would lose in half, to $315,000.

His agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Associated Press that both sides benefited from the settlement and that Johnson had learned from the entire experience.

"Larry apologized," Schaffer said. "He learned from it and hopefully other people learned from it. My hope is that people learn that something positive can come out of this and that there are words that should not be used because they demean people."

I don't know what the petition is gonna do....KC should just do Larry Johnson like TB did to Keyshawn back in the day. He should have been deactivated thesecond he said all that dumb !@#% on twitter.

Fans thinking they somehow can control a team and the moves it makes.

Who gives a damn if hes mentioned among the all time Chief greats.

They weren't complaint all the time that he was running for all those yards and setting all those records. %!@+ KC Dans. Let him have his day.

even if it's 3 weeks from now with his pathetic offensive line.

I say let him get the record. if he's on the verge of breaking it, then doesn't he deserve to break it?Don't let his off-the-field/character issues stop him from achieving a great honor on the field that he deserves...

KC fans didn't have any problem with LJ 2005 and 2006 when he had a combined 37 TDs and 3500 YDs...

. It's not like his character issues were non-existant then....they werewithout a doubt there. He was playing well though so they let it slide...and now because he's not one of the top rushers in the league anymore the fansfeel they have the authority to deny him something he rightfully should have

...

I want to hear KC fans chime in on this. gottagitdemjs, etc.?

I've been trying to find out for a while what exactly LJ said on his Twitter...

Larry Johnson Slur: Larry Johnson the star NFL football player for the Kansas City Chiefs football team on Twitter - Larry Johnson who is a Kansas City Chiefs' Running Back has been suspended by the team for repeatedly using a gay-slur on his Twitter account. The football player made homophobic slurs such as "f** pic","Christopher street boy",Get your f****t $*+ out of here." on his Twitter page. Johnson has since apologized for this.

LJ in San Fran ... after dropping those derogatory word for Homosexuals ... Not a good Look

Lol......Yea, i wasnt thinking about the city.

I say he goes to Green Bay/Texans/Raiders.

Eagles need a RB also, but i dont think they can take him.....I think Green Bay is in more need, their running backs have been sub-par this season.

Larry is doing a great job at destroying his own career, he didnt need the help of others.

Wish dude nothing but the best. Like I have said in previous posts I have never had a problem with him. He played hard even when this team was getting killedand he had a bunch of 5th graders for o-lineman blocking for him.

It was best that he left KC and I hope he gets a fresh start some where.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Larry Johnson's record-breaking career as a Kansas City running back is over.
"
A part of him is excited and a part of him is very regretful. There's a lot of feelings going on right now.
" -- Peter Schaffer, Johnson's agent

The Chiefs confirmed Monday that they had run out of patience with his off-the-field problems and released Johnson the day he was due to come back from his second suspension in a year.

Johnson, who turns 30 on Nov. 19, was just 75 yards away from breaking Priest Holmes' team rushing record.

The decision by the Chiefs (1-7) was not a surprise.

"A part of him is excited and a part of him is very regretful," Johnson's agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Associated Press. "There's a lot of feelings going on right now. It's analogous to breaking up with a girlfriend. Maybe you saw it coming, but it still hurts when it happens."

A No. 1 draft choice out of Penn State in 2003, Johnson was one of the best running backs in the NFL in 2005 and 2006, rushing for more than 1,700 yards in each of those Pro Bowl seasons.

But often angry and sullen, he was dogged by controversy and frequently at odds with coaches and fans. On Oct. 25, in what turned out to be his final episode with the Chiefs, he posted on his Twitter account several insults to fans, questioned coach Todd Haley's credentials and used a gay slur.

He repeated the slur the next day to reporters and was suspended for two weeks. At Schaffer's urging, the Chiefs cut the financial penalty in half, saving him about $315,000.

Johnson was the subject of an online petition last week calling on the Chiefs not to let him break the team rushing record. He was never a fan favorite and his apology for the online comments came almost exactly one year after issuing a similar apology for alleged incidents involving women in Kansas City nightclubs.

In 2008, then-coach Herm Edwards benched him for three straight games for violating team rules. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him a fourth game for violating the league's player conduct policy.

Johnson was later sentenced to two years' probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace. One woman accused him of throwing a drink on her and another said he had pushed her head at a Kansas City night spot.

A judge suspended the sentence and said he would remove the guilty plea from the public record if Johnson has no further legal problems during probation.

On the field, Johnson has not run with the quickness and strength that characterized his Pro Bowl years since setting an NFL record with 416 rushing attempts in 2006. He set the team single-season rushing record that season with 1,789 yards.

This year, in 132 carries behind inconsistent blocking, he averaged only 2.7 yards per carry. He ends his Chiefs career with 5,996 yards rushing and 55 touchdowns. He also caught 151 passes for 1,369 yards and six TDs.
