What exactly does "keeping it real" mean in your opinion? Is this a good rule to live by in your opinion?
For instance back in hs if someone steps on my jays(fresh FRVs) then it was going down. That's what I used to think keeping it real meant. Getting gully when someone disrespects you.
Now I'm not so sure what keeping it "real" really means since I avoid any types of situations that could warrant irrational behavior on my part.
Please illustrate instances of correct forms of keeping it real because I'd like to know.
Would telling a fat chick that dress ain't made for her be a version of keeping  it real?
Or can getting into a verbal/psyhical fight with someone someone you bump into on the streets if they do you dirty be considered keeping it real?
Help me understand.

Cliffs: What does keeping it real actually mean iyo?

For me keeping it real means never lying to yourself or blown things out of proportion, cause once you get that down with yourself you can't help but be that way with everybody else. Also keeping a cool head under all circumstances, yelling and arguing is petty and a female trait. I never go back and forth with my women and she hardly ever has a problem cause she knows nagging is a dead end with me, and now when we see couples fight we have room to clown on them and talk spit

It can be anything from a female letting me know from jump what it is to someone letting a person who spitting bs what the business is.

It's a rare find nowadays brethren.

Yeah I definetaly agree with you on this. I always hear people telling me about how they kept it "real" but the only thing that my brain can process from the situations they describe is ignorant behavior.

Example: Guy: My professor aired my out in class so I kept it real and said screw you and walked out.
I'm sitting there like what?

i never really understood this phrase either and the dave chappelle skit confused me even more

Back in freshman year of college, my friends would constantly say this one dude from our group of friends was gay, although there were no solid proof. One night, I was in the car with a few of my friends smoking up and i was sitting next to that supposedly suspect kid in the backseat. He started to "air drum" and started tapping my thighs, so I moved over cause I felt pretty uncomfortable and dude killed my high. Next day, I tell one of my friends what had happened the other night and that I think this kid might be gay, after all. During class, the supposedly gay dude turned around and said "there's mad snakes in this school...I've heard people calling me gay". I just told him straight up that I was one of those snakes and I apologized and I was not really sure if he was actually suspect or not and I would still be his friend no matter what. He gave me a cold stare and ignored me and pretty much talked mad trash behind my back to our group of friends...so after that incident, he chilled with all the people that were calling him homosexual insults, while talking smack behind someone who apologized and was honest.
Was I "keeping it real"? and did "keeping it real go wrong"?

When you did what your gut said

the consequence dictates if it went wrong or right

Being YOURSELF regardless of the situation. Most ppl like to switch $+% up when they are in a certain situations, most ppl will try to try to adjust to to the certain situations they are in, then you got them !#++ it, idgaf ppl, hence the "when keeping it real goes wrong" situations. I tend to be the latter, but man working in corporate america you learn quick u just can't go slappin' mf's just cause they piss you off

One time I was on a bus and I got to my stop and as I was exiting the back bus exit me and this other dude happened to bump shoulders on the way out of the bus because we both got there at the same time (like one of those cliche moments in t.v. shows when 2 friends bump each other trying to exit the same door)

Other guy: c'mon son what are you doing?
Me: homie you seen me walking towards the door...I didn't even see you
Other guy: c'mon son keep it real
Me: dude your a black guy with blonde hair and green eyes...homie are you keeping it real?

**whole bus roars in laughter and I end up being a hero for "keeping it real" folks across america**
