So I tried to do a Google search, but I turned up nothing.

I see these being sold in liquor stores, toy stores, grocery stores, music stores, and etc. With most spots being sold out.

I heard the craze is so big they have even been banned from some schools.

I had one when I was little and I'm pretty sure I used it for about 2 minutes

My question is -

What started this kendama craze?

Neither have I. So lost, out of touch with todays youth.

Edit - I'm in California and the only other news I found about them being banned is in MN, so maybe it hasn't spread all over yet. Everywhere I go I see kids with these things left and right.
