**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

The block feature is wonderful...
The fact that I don't insult people here yet you have to block me shows me you're weakminded. The fact that you get frustrated because of my opinions about DLo and the team is even more ridiculous.

Thank you for blocking me.

I don't take losing lightly as a fan. Especially the way we've been losing. There are multiple games we should have won, no excuses whatsoever. I  probably hate losing more than some of these Laker players, no joke.

Until they start winning and until they start playing HARD for 4 quarters, I am going to keep ripping every negative feature about this team and its lackluster performances.

"Typical young team loss" - Is that gonna be our excuse for each and every game now?

I mean they make mistakes on O and D in a few key points of the game that completely swing momentum to the other team
You'd think those mistakes go away with experience

Of course NOTHING excuses lack of effort, hustle, intensity and playing hard

Lowry went coast to coast in the clutch and hit big shots wide open and a huge rebound. I want to see our PG take a personal challenge to get in his jersey and play tight and physical

So here's the thing....what do you think is the cause for their lack of effort, hustle, intensity, and playing hard?

Is it the wrong mix of players? Is the lack of effort because this group doesn't like playing together? Is it just a couple of players specifically that don't bring it? Does the coaching staff not know how to get the best out of them?

Losing and youth is a big part of it. Experience helps players learn team defense, rotations, being consistent etc

plus some players don't have that type of personality to fight and go hard all the time. Some players don't HATE losing enough.

We losing cuz of clarkson imo
His subpar play of late is definitely a cause for concern, especially since he's in his third year. It looks to me as if he's already peaked and we've seen the best of what his talent can bring. I doubt he can be any better than what we've already witnessed from him, whether it's with this team or another.

Idk what it is. I'm leaning towards him not being allowed to do too much. Cuz dude is definitely better than this.

We can't just say Lowry did it so Dlo will do it too.....blossom and become an All Star at 27
You have to compare skill sets.

Even when out of shape, Lowry was attacking the basket and finishing over bigs in Mem and Hou. He was an irritant who would really get after it on both ends

Dlo is better as a shooter and passer than Lowry was in his 2nd year

plus he didnt become an all star til he moved over to the east

Mike conley may never get the nod and hes making more than westbrook, dame, cp3 and curry

Lowry and Russell definitely have different skill sets, different builds, play style etc.

But Russell does have skills that can be developed to make him an all star caliber player.

First off, his anthropometric measurements for his position are elite-- standing reach, wingspan etc.

His explosion and athleticism is a question, however.. But thats not to say he's not athletic

I think Russell is very athletic in his own right. He did record a 39" vertical which is tremendous so you know its there

He's still a young, physically maturing player. Right now DLo excels best where he utilizes his coordination, length and ball handling (basically areas where he doesnt need exceptional athleticism). Essentially this would be post ups (using length/size advantage), navigating towards the hoop off a pick (threat of shooting helps here), combo moves, changing speeds/hesitations etc. Russell also has the makings of being a very good shooter (high catch and shoot 3P%)

Obviously at this point DLo doesnt have the in game explosion or first step to consistently blow by defenders and throw it down. He may be able to do this to an extent once he fully develops and is able to engage his fast twitch fibers better..But for now I think he is maturing the cerebral part of his game which even without the elite athleticism would make him a very good player. Luke is doing the right thing in having DLo improve the mental aspect of his game instead of having him be too aggressive i.e. making the right read, playing within the offense etc. His numbers translate well over 36 minutes or 100 possessions and, as a 20 year old, I think thats fairly impressive.

The easiest (also most frustrating thing) DLo needs to improve is attention to detail and being engaged for the entire game. When he is engaged he has shown he can be a solid defender and make great reads/passes. Also something that he will improve imo

So basically like any 20 year old PG, DLo has a lot to work on and a lot of maturing to do. But there is also a lot to like.

Shouts out to whiplash but if Dlo ever does become a star, I vote to use Hollywood as a nickname.
nope

mr " ice in my veins" has already been established
Mr Ice in my veins is too lengthy, too wordy, too drawn out, and unoriginal. Stu Lantz used to say a player had "ice in his veins" LONG BEFORE Russell came along. In fact, Stu used to say that about Kobe, Fish, and Horry all the time when those guys came through in the clutch.

Hollywood Russell is much more original and catchy. Just like Magic Johnson.
