**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

What I miss?

As CHI went big and Ham responded with Rui at center, Drummond proceeds to have his best game of the season.

Out-rebounded again by a smaller team. Strength of the roster is size and length, but going in opposite direction with Vando playing less and Wood racking up DNPs

Think Gabe coming back team just ends up going smaller. Max Christie is already out of rotation so anymore minute for game come at expense of AR/DLo and/or going smaller.

Vando is hurt, and Wood sucks.

Gabe coming back should mean less Cam... and Max will be out of the rotation because you can't realistically play 5 guards.

This team only looks competent on offense when Bron and AD are both scoring 30, and one of the guards (Austin or DLo) has it going... been saying for the longest that ain't gonna cut it.

For all the dumping on DLo (understandable), he has still has value to this team with his shooting/playmaking on that deal. That SF spot is just immensely important the way the team is currently constructed and they aren't getting anything from it outside of streaky shooting from TP.

DLo aint off the hook here, but Vando/Rui is an issue as their roles were supposed to grow this year. Vando needs that Udonis haslem middy or has to become more explosive around the rim. Otherwise, he's just a bench piece and his value drops if he isn't playing next to table setters. Rui is currently best in the role backing up Bron, but he's a space cadet and even streakier that TP from game to game. Hasn't helped both have missed time with injuries thus far.

Trey Murphy/Herb Jones is what you need there, but thats asking alot with their induvidual skillsets. If you could combine them into 1 player? 🔥

Add to that Bron is accelerating everyones timeline which makes issues more glaring. There are SF connector types Rob needs to look at come Jan 15th.

Team is just alright, but not gonna make noise for anything serious.

Rob gonna make moves in Feb or it's a wash.

This is it. It's easier for fans to blame the coach but the roster just isn't that good. You could have Erik Sporlstra coaching this team and it still wouldn't be a title contender. No coaches that good or valuable.

We are a couple of moves away from being a legit title contender but is currently constructed we are looking like a middle of the pack team at best.

Here’s the issue with SF

DLo and AR are not rebounders. AR crashes better than DLo. Last night in the 2nd/3rd, DLo basically was trying to collide into guys to move them out of the way to open up rebounding for the team. A much better approach than what he does give many times. Which for that stretch last night worked, even though DLo won’t come down with them.

(LaVine doesn’t help rebounding btw. They are what they are rebounding from the guard spots).

But they have Prince out there for 30+ minutes and he’s the worst rebounder on the team.
DLo has a 5.0 Reb%. Prince is 4.2 Reb%.

Rui is 7.8. Vando is 12.6. Wood is 14.6

AD is 17 and Bron is 11.6 for reference

Prince is a good player. He’s not a starter. He’s not a closer (unless he’s absolutely scorching hot). The reliance on Prince (which you can only play who you got) isn’t helping the way Ham is asking for. He’s a 15-20minute guy and would be SUPER helpful on the second unit. He doesn’t mix with the personnel starters. Including Bron and AD.

On the defensive end where it doesn’t fit is despite AD leading the league in Rebounds.
The idea is that you push their offense to AD. He contests. But it is up to the forwards to crash, and clean up the scraps and pass it ahead to the guards to get into the offense.

Then you have Vando who gives Defense and rebounds. But isn’t getting run because he’s detrimental to offense.
Then there’s Rui, I’m not sure what the issue is there.
Then Cam who is an absolute menace on Defense. But offensively he did a lot of damage last night.
Wood rebounds, isn’t getting played.

Between Cam, Vando, Rui, Prince, and throw in Wood. There’s a bunch of quality guys. But they are just that. Guys.
There has to be a medium bridge between DLo/AR to Bron/AD.

Then you have the backup to AD need.

Trading for Lavine doesn't fix our issues.

I'm not blaming it all on D.lo but he hasn't been great the last few games but neither have Rui, TP and Cam.

Ups and downs in the season and this is a clear down.

Sadly if they continue to play like this I don't see a win for at least another week.

DLo appears zapped of confidence.

It’s been bad for two weeks. Shot isn’t falling, and to compensate and not get pulled he then isn’t taking shots because he wants to get all the players involved. At least that’s how it feels/appears.

But whatever it is. You gotta get ahold of it from a coaching perspective. Sure, his contract is a tradeable asset. Then he outplays it by a lot and he’s in the trade rumors again. And he’s been professional this go round with the Lakers and has taken a leadership role (albeit as much as one could on a LeBron team). It’s a business, but that **** has to mess with one’s psyche.

Spo is just the spokesperson for that heat team if you haven’t heard.

But but but.....this same core made the Western Conference Finals last year and this year's team is supposed to be better than Beasley, Bamba, Lonnie, and Dennis according to all the expert analysis before training camp started.

The problem is HAM doesn't know how to utilize his talent. He doesn't have the basketball mind and ability ntm the respect of his players. This is CLEAR when you are watching the games.

Dude is still experimenting with lineups 1/3 into the season, something he had ample time doing during training camp.

Vando should probably just sit until he's 100%. It would allow for Rui to get more minutes and allow for a backup center () to get back into the rotation.

This team reminds me of the 2021 team in that case. A lot of players that can make a legit claim to deserving minutes. Someone has to sit.
