a lot of this **** came down to philosophies. GM / Ham / whoever kept trying to build the roster as 5 out skill guys/"offense" when bron/ad winning formula is big bully ball/defense lol

It’s not just mental though…

He’s a slow, un-athletic guard that is allergic to physicality. Not to mention horrible shot selection at times, dumb turnovers and just giving zero F’s most nights on defense.

He's a one trick pony who's entire game is predicated on one specific aspect of the game, the 3 point shot. If that isn't going it affects literally everything with him because of what he lacks in so many other areas. He had a career year this season with that one skill but as per usual turns into a pumpkin when it matters most. I'm not bringing him back under any circumstances if I'm Rob, especially with the attitude stuff.

DLo been a no-show other than the first half of game 2 - averaging 12/3/3.7 on 32.6% FG this playoff series. He's primarily got the easiest defensive matchup against KCP.

Rui been a no-show all series. Rui is like an old school post-up bruiser, but when his matchup is Jokic and other switches are all small guards to cover Jokic (Vincent, DLo, Reaves, Dinwiddie, Prince, etc.), there's no one else to guard Jokic on either end. He really just got hot shooting last year at the right time. Only way to enable him is to get him switches onto KCP or Murray (but can't with small-ball lineups). Otherwise he's sitting in the corner waiting for a 3 and getting abused by Jokic on the other end.

AR-14.7/5/2.7 on 45.9% FG. Got the primary defensive matchup against Murray and I think he's been fine to above average keeping Murray to mediocre shooting splits.

Small ball lineups with Ham favoring: Prince, Dinwiddie, Vincent as the rest of the 8-man rotation have been rough. Abused on the boards every game with them not shooting well enough to make up for it.

Post-mortem for 2024-2025 season:
AD/Bron: Maxed (43 and 51 mil)
DLo-18.7 mil (player option)
Rui- 17 mil
AR- 13 mil
Gabe Vincent- 11 mil
Vando-10.7 mil

Rest are Rookie contracts/veteran minimums

Unless a trade is made, that just leaves a mid-level. DLo and Rui sank their value this series. Gabe Vincent been hurt and got little value. Leaves AR as only one with value as the contract for a starter at 13 mil is a good bargain for most teams. Best trade package would be centered around AR + the picks (+DLo or Rui salary filler if going for a bigger contract)

This. All those layups where he rushes the release before any contact or before it gets blocked cuz he’s too slow to blow by anyone
It is who he is at this point. Just a slow streaky shooter who can’t defend, passes well sometimes, dumb turnovers other times, doesn’t show up in the playoffs….

What does Rui do well besides shoot jumpers?

He’s really another one trick pony, who unlike DLo actually has some of the physical tools to be much better than he is in other areas like rebounding… he just chooses not to do it for whatever reason.

Like forget singling out Rui for a minute… let’s just say in general, how many players on this roster do you think actually COMPETE? Simple question

DLo opting out is a disaster for the Lakers (financially) by the way.

Wouldn’t be able to sign and trade him without shedding some of the middle salaries first as salary dumps. Because they’d have to stay below the apron to be allowed to make a sign and trade.

And let’s be real, if you’re signing D’Angelo Russell you’re not trading pieces you want to keep. You’re trying to rid of albatrosses because the Lakers would have no choice.
