At this point in life Im on some serious bum @@@! like you wouldnt believe.
  • No job. Broke as $%%$, but I dont even want to work.
  • Im doing poorly in school. 2.0 GPA with no signs of improvement. My transcript is looking like @@@!
  • Only taking 2 classes this semester (had 6 but dropped all of them because I felt I was gunna do bad in them
    30t6p3b.gif
) and Im no even doing well in them.

The scary thing is that despite all of that, and being aware of the hole Im in academically, I remain the same. Absolutely no motivation to do well. I hate school so much but I cant imagine not being in school and not graduating. So like dropping out wouldnt even be an option for me.

Im only 20 and I feel like Ive ruined my life

I like to blame all of this stuff on my "situation" throughout my college years until now but playing the blame game is childish. Ive always thought of myself as a smart dude with a pretty bright future and a lot of people who know me would stay the same. But as of today it isnt looking that way

So yea, how do you guys become motivated and driven? Im sure a lot of you have dug yourself a hole at some point in life and climbed out and became successful. How did you guys do it?

When ever I make a thread about advice you guys always come through for me, so some quality advice and encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Change your attitude, force yourself to change. Change your attitude, accept yourself, accept your failures, embrace them and know that these things won't stop you. Like you said, some folks have dug themselves a hole, but somehow they managed to climb back up. Weird huh? Myabe they got fed up with being a failure that that provoked them to strive towards success. Become a happy individual. Focus your distractions into constructive energy. Yes, a lot of people, including myself, like to slack off on things because you may feel there is no point or that you're helpless in accomplishing the task, but you have to think of the rewards these things give you. Think of things that you truly want. People want money, they know that working is gonna get them that, so they work hard and don't give up. What is something that you strive to accomplish? What do you really want out of your life? Where do you want to be 5 years from now?

First off, your life isn't ruined. If you're only 20, you have time to turn it around. But you have to start soon.

I'm also lacking in the motivation department. I'm in school right now, so whenever I get discouraged or just bored with the work, I just remember that I'm getting a quality education and it's either do this work here or drop out and live meagerly.

What grade are you in? My advice would be to start afresh next semester and form a habit of wanting to achieve and succeed to your highest potential. You will find out that your greatest motivator, is doing well. Once you do well on that first exam it pushes you to continue to do well. Falling into a hole can be a serious de-motivator.

How do I get motivated?

Let's see..just the mere thought of being a hobo and being poor is enough to motivate me.

and

I don't want to disappoint my parents.

So like dropping out wouldnt even be an option for me.
If you don't improve, that won't be your decision to make.

Everything that isn't helping you achieve your goals (tv, internet, partying) needs to become secondary. Commit yourself to making schoolwork your #1 priority, and then when you have free time AFTER you've gotten your work done, think about how much better it feels to have peace of mind during your free time instead of having all that weight on your shoulders.

What college do you attend?

For me, I feel like an idiot every time I don't do excellently on my tests/school work. I know what I want from life and I know I intend to get it, so I set it up so that I'm the only one that can stop me. Some people like to blame other people/external factors when things don't go their way, but I like to put it all on me, it gives me responsibility and also a feeling of control knowing that I'm in charge of my life.

Basically I have a list of goals/stuff I want to do in my life and I make sure I can get to those things.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I was on academic probation this year and still fcked up so I'm gonna lose my student loans and most likely be kicked outta school. I've been thinkin about taking a semester/year off to get a job and get my head straight, but don't know how to approach my parents about it. Help me out NT.

But yea, Im a sophomore right now (still

) and Im working to become a therapist. In 5 years, I would hope to be almost graduating from grad school. But to be seriously honest, I dont even really know what I want in life. I want to be a therapist but Im not sure if thats REALLY want I want to do. Maybe that an be a major factor? The fact that Im working toward something that I may not even want?

Word me too! Maybe take a semester off, travel/vacation, and learn some new skills/play some baseball. Just to get my mind at ease.
The way I see it, if your head isnt into it, then step back, re-evaluate things and go back when your straight. Depending on how this semester goes, I think Im gunna take the fall semester off and do what I stated. I cant continue on this path Im currently on.
