Just because you are cursed with black skin doesn't mean they will treat you different.... If anything they feel bad god has cursed you with black skin....

^^^ that isn't what was saying. And plus, they don't go by the dark skin thing anymore. They USED to. Or at least their religion did because coloured folk couldn't fully participate

Yep. Used to work with a Mormon dude who was the man... only difference I noticed was that he never swore or drank, which was fine.
But for real... I cannot rock with these beliefs

can't really get down with any religion, I guess. But that's another story for a different day.

I'm already cursed with black skin, you would think you guys would feel sorry for me....
But seriously you mean to tell me now they just choose not to believe in a part of their HOLY TEXT, sureeee they don't....

^^^ that isn't what I was saying either. Half of the mormons (the younger ones) don't even know about the text

I bring it up and they have NO CLUE about it

Dated a Mormon for a good 6 months. Ex now cause she wants to marry within the church and thought marriage between us is impossible. I thought Catholics were stricted, Mormons are on a whole notha planet.

To the ones that are up in arms, how can you be angry at the younger followers that do not follow the same scripture as previous mormons?

^^I ain't mad. Religion has been bad in all forms. It ain't just Mormonism. I just thought we were having a discussion

Relax bros this is a discussion, I just proposed a question because people were making some very harsh remarks about mormons. Wanted to know why they felt such anger against the newer members of the church who expressed that they don't necessarily feel the same way.

Mojo I feel you, NT will bash any religion there is I forgot ha! But still good to discuss to see what everyones opinion is

Don't know if you are talking about me exactly but I really have nothing against newer members or whoever else. I am not dumb enough to hold anyone accountable for some old *#%@.

It was just part of the discussion that I thought we were having and I feel like I just made a couple of decent points

But if I offended anyone I apologize

I'm LDS. I don't profess to be perfect and I don't profess that the leaders of the Church to be perfect; nobody is.

I'm very familiar with the criticisms and the skeptical inquiries from many different people about a number of issues. I don't have all the answers to every question or every inquiry.

However, I do not base my faith in those things, but rather in simple, core, and necessary understandings of Jesus Christ and God's plan for us.

I do my best to not force my belief-system onto others because the idea of agency and the ability to choose is something that is of the highest importance within LDS theology. Each of you are free to choose how you think and feel. I am in no position to judge anybody of their actions or thoughts. I simply do my best to live the principles and respect the choices of others.

While I choose to live my life in a different way than many of you, I do not think that I am better than you, because who am I to say that? I do my best to leave judgement to God and to make sure that I am living out my life the way I think I should first. What I think and do is what I believe to be the best for me. I work in harmony with my wife and we do our best to follow Jesus Christ and to be examples of Him.

Is everything easliy explained? I'm not so sure it all can be but I also believe that it doesn't really need to all be explained, at least right now. Being human, and by our very nature, I have enough on my plate in making sure that I'm trying to do the right thing. I do not worry so much about other issues, especially when I know that I can improve in my own life. I trust that God will sort all things out in time and in His way.

I am not racist and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for peoples from all cultures. We all have something to learn from each other. My brother-in-law is African-American and he is a fantastic guy. Sure, our viewpoints don't always match-up, but that's to be expected. We're different people with different lives. We should all be different, even if we share many of the same beliefs.

I trust the Church when they say, "The Church unequivocally condemns racism, including any and all past racism by individuals both inside and outside the Church." I know there may still be skepticism and doubt from some of you, and that's okay. You are entitled and deserve the right to think how you want to and I won't get in the way of it. And while some members of the LDS church may offend you and do something that is inappropriate, I ask that those instances are not used as projections for all members.

With anything of this nature, I would suggest seeking out the best sources and speaking to those who are informed of issues and speak in a fair and polite way. Seeking out information that is designed to fire up emotions will do just that, but may not entirely convey all the information.

I am not blind or oblivious to the issues that people have with the church and again, I don't pretend to know every answer. But I do believe in a God who would answer the prayer of somebody who really wants to know something and has intentions in their heart that are godly.

Anyways, continue your discussion.

Dated a Mormon girl for a 8months when I was a young cat in high school, family was really accepting, really nice, and they treated me like family. Same goes for all the Mormon people I met through her or her fam. Her little brother went on to play ball at BYU but got booted for premarital sex, reported by his fiance. Go figure. She gave top like no other, I was blown away, literally(sadly she never let me hit, part of the reason why we broke it off, I was young and needed that). Liked her a lot, but ended things due to her wanting to get married and start a family. We were 16.
True story.

Can you please explain why LDS does the door-to-door evangelizing? Just wondering.

Mark 16:15 says, "And [Christ] said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

I was once a missionary and I hated doing the door-to-door thing for obvious reasons, but we believe we're fulfilling a commandment from Jesus Christ to at least share what we believe. People being obnoxious about it is another story and is wrong to do

What I do is simply inform others of my belief-system, share with them my experiences, possibly invite them to come to Church or do somet other activity, but ultimately let them decide what to do with the information they've been given.

I'm wholly in the belief that people can think that certain actions or principles are incorrect, but I do not use that to say, "Because you're wrong, I'm better than you." I usually just agree to disagree, with respect to the other person's beliefs and lifestyle. I live my life a certain way because I believe it's the right thing to do, and while I may not agree 100% with how somebody else may live their life, it's really their decision and they have the choice to do such, as long as it does not affect the lives of the people around them in a negative way (not religous to me, but more common sense). I try my hardest to respect that person's choice and respect their space.

Like I said earlier, I'm human, and by no means perfect. I do try to improve though.

Must really suck having to walk up to raccoons and squirrels and try to tell them that they'll get their own planet if they act right.

FWIW, its not just LDS but all Christians who are technically supposed to go out and try to spread the Word to non-believers.

Agreed. However, I don't think it's just for non-believers. Christians and all who participate in a religion need constant reminders and repetition of principles. I would argue that Christ commanded we share with believers and non-believers alike.
