Learning HTML

Anybody have any experience with it? I'm currently a content editor (name is deceiving for my actual job duty) but use programs related XML files (Arbor text editor and xMetal). I feel like this would be something of good use. 

Is it something that can be picked up on my own or should i seek out a class/cert (if there is one) for it?

I learned a little in a class that I ended up dropping about a month in.

The rest was picked up posting on NT (yuku) while on my iPhone.
