Actually there's a big difference. I've worn  4 of the major brands - mcdavid, nike, adidas and NBA brand- compression gear, sleeves and leg sleeves and padded sleeves and shorts.

McDavid is the cream of the crop. They invented the whole genre of gear in the first place, by the way. Theirs are the best. Seriously, by far. The compression stuff is more durable and more comfortable, the padded stuff is lighter, works better, and looks better. I would absolutely recommend McDavid for ANY support type equipment. It's the best stuff you can buy, period.

Adidas is good too. It's a little pricier, but the D Rose style knee pads are a nice basketball specific item. The compression gear is top notch, the tank top and the shorts really do what they're supposed to do. It's just that it's too much money for too little of an effect - pretty much any tight tank top will make you feel the same, especially if you don't have a professional athlete's body fat %. Their sleeves are a little short for my liking (6'2", moderately long arms), though.

NBA sleeves are perfect for what they are. Keep the arm warm and they feel awesome. They're not as high quality as McDavid, and the compression isn't as good as the Adidas, but they're the most comfy to wear - you can have it on for hours and your arm will still feel great in the end.

Nike/Jordan is the worst. Unless all you care about is the brand logo, then stay away. This stuff is cheaply made with poor fabrics and bad attention to detail. I wouldn't take it as a present.
