Let's discuss baseballs "unwritten rules"

You hit teammates because the guy that got pegged will handle the situation and probably go chew out the guy who was show boating. If I just got hit by a 95 mph fastball because my teammate did something stupid, best believe Ill be getting in his face to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I agree with a lot of points you made tho, pitchers are prima donnas and basically throw childish temper tantrums but then go on and stare hitters down after strikeouts and such

Then as far as the Bryce and a rod thing goes, nobody likes them. That's really the only explanation, do they deserve it? No. But again, nobody likes those players

IMO, there is nothing not to like about Harper. Can't even lump him w/ ARod. Tehran was a sucker. Plain and simple.

i have no problem with him running his mouth, just don't surprised getting beaned for it later.

When in any other sport does talking **** = getting pegged with a 90+mph at your torso head...Ridiculous on so many levels. Y'all hate Stern but if he ran baseball, the unwritten rules like those would have been outed long ago.

braves prob talking to him as well way before the incident

some pitchers can be over the top with their celebrations which is cool with me

as long as I get to see more of this

I think some of them are good rules and a part of tradition. I do think some of them are petty. If you watch your HR for a second too long it's a huge deal or flipping your bat. **** like that is stupid, enjoy your moment. I didn't mind the Braves all year long until Brian McCann became a female crying over BS and blocking the plate. Then we got Chris Johnson being the biggest female of all time trying to run up on son but behind the ump :{

Good post. I think my gripe is more so with intentionally hitting batters and teams fighting over petty stuff. Some unwritten rules and traditions can be good but the intentionally drilling batters has no place in the sport to me. No matter how excessive someone celebrates, to plunk them with a fast ball or one of their teammates is going to far. In the real world world, if someone got a 90mph ball purposely thrown at them, that's assault. In baseball its policing the sport.

Regarding the Gomez celebration. It may have been over the top but if I was the braves pitcher I would simoly responded with. What time is your playoff game next week. If a guy like Gomez who's team is trash wants to celebrate or a guy wants to celebrate hitting a home run while down 10-0 let him make a fool of himself.

To the dude about how no one likes arod. Yeah that's true. But why get suspended while your in a race for home field and get fined as well. No matter how much of a jerk he may be, his actions aren't effecting you and its mlbs place to punish him, not yours to decide to take justice into your own hands.

He had gotten beaned earlier in the season, he just never forgot about it.

This. He told the pitcher "you hit me, so I hit you" after he hit the hr last night. The Braves just made a bigger deal out of it just like the incidents with Harper and Jose Fernandez from the Marlins.

And the MLB player codes continue...

Report: Braves Players Boycotted Chipper Jones's First Pitch

According to CBS New York, no Atlanta Braves player volunteered to catch Chipper Jones's ceremonial first pitch before Game 1 of the NLDS because Jones had previously picked the Dodgers to win the series. Jones had to throw his pitch to the team's mascot.

And the MLB player codes continue...

I don't think that's a player code per-say...more like they didn't like or respect Chipper Jones to begin with. I don't think his picking of the Dodgers had anything to do with this petty *** decision on their part.

I dunno though.....

From NYPost:

Evidently, Braves players were not happy Jones had gone on the radio earlier in the day with the team's flagship station, 680 The Fan, and predicted the Dodgers would win the NLDS in four games. So no player volunteered to catch the pitch.

Either way yeah I'm sure there were other factors too in there.....but come on though braves :lol

I agree with you that some of the unwritten rules of baseball are a little outdated, but I totally disagree with you on your stance on intentionally drilling someone with a pitch.  You say that its assault.  I say its absolutely no different in any other sport.

You think that if a running back showboats that the defensive players dont try to hit him harder the next time he has the ball....or even go low or high?

You think that if a NBA player throws down a dunk and showboats that the next time he tries to come in the paint that a defender isn't going to hit him with an incredibly hard foul?

You think if an NHL player is showbating, an opposing player wont check him extra hard into the boards or throw a punch at him?

Bottom line is, you can say that intentionally throwing at a batter is "assault" all you want.  But if you truly believe that, then every example I just gave you should be viewed the exact same way.
