Let's talk Adderal prescriptions...

Yo so I'm trying to get on some Adderal to help me with my schoolwork... I'm an English major and I have an insane amount of reading this semester.I'm going to fall behind if I don't get some... "help", so I decided I'm going to meet with my doc this week to try to get on that Addy.

Few questions:

- How much does it work? Will I be able to read a book like Frankenstein/Bonfire of the Vanities/All the King's Men in a few days?

- Is it easy to get prescribed? I do show a lot of symptoms for attention disorder.

- Is it addictive? Will I feel stupid without it?

sounds more like you got a work overload than ADD and that means you just gunna have to deal with it..Adderall works really well for people who acually need itbut turns people who dont into speed freaks..be careful with it. seen alot of people go from some recreational adderall use to meth in a few months..good luck

It is supposed to be able to help you focus more on the task at hand and avoid distractions, and allow you to work more to your ability, but itdoesn't do miracles.

Getting a prescription is not easy like saying you have seasonal allergies. ADHD medications are controlled substances since they are stimulants, and youcannot prescribe refills on them or have a prescription called in.

More than likely your doctor will ask you about symptoms and have you take a questionnaire. ADHD is defined as having symptoms in more than one setting, suchas in school or at work or at home.

It should not be addicting and only lasts through the day, in other words doses do not build upon themselves so if you miss one day it won't affect how itworks the next time you take it.

how about you work on time management before you try to get "help" by getting adderal. You're already talking about "falling behind"before you even got all of your school work. No offense, but that's a losers mentality...

-It works very well. Depending on your dosage you may be able to read straight for a solid 6-8 hours.

-Yes it is easily prescribed.

-Yes it is addictive.

I don't mean to come off as rude, but dude, you are an English major. You should not need Adderall. Read the book or sparknote it. If you are havingtrouble reading, see if you can get an audio book.

But I mean if you are having trouble reading Frankenstein and other novels, then you might actually need it. I mean what do I know right.

If you really don't though, I would suggest only using them for emergency situations (i.e. midterm/final).

Honestly OP, that thought is where you went wrong. Drugs aren't the answer to better study habits.
Study normally and manage your time well, your health will thank you in the end.

^Right. 9/10 kids come outta highschool without the proper study habits, including myself.

You gotta push yourself to study more and stay focused at first, then it comes easily.

It's pretty common among college students now, half my friends regularly take it when they're pulling all nighters or cramming.

I personally consider it cheating in college if you use it. If you are diagnosed legitimately with attention disorders, then I don't have a problem withit. But students who simply rely on it due to their own laziness or lack of time management, I disagree with its usage.

I know the heavy course load English majors have to deal with, but taking adderal shouldn't be the answer, manage your time better and read... it is yourmajor after all.

Its effects are different for everybody. I have friends who use it and while they're feelings the effects they can focus, read, and do work at a much moreefficient pace. However they usually can't recall the information later when they're off the drug. They also have a harder time focusing without usingit, so they begin to need it more often than really necessary.

I tried it once, but that didn't work for me at all. I wasn't aware of a lot of the effects above (not surprised though) ....so I'm glad itdidn't work.

its really common in college, and really easy to get if you just ask around

but i have a prescription due to a mild case off add, although I dont tell anyone i have a script
cause I dont want people hounding me for it, cause if it were somehow traced back to me,
than i can say bye-bye to my career as a pharmacist. its just not worth the risk

im suppose to take it everyday, but i only usually take it like 2 or 3 times a week
cause i don't want to build up a tolerance / im somewhat scared of it messing with my bodys physiology long term

when i take it, im wide awake, its easier to stay focused and grasp new concepts, and im not distracted as easily

some side effects for me:
it makes my heart beat really fast randomly (kinda scary)
i feel like a different person, way more calm and focused
if i take it in the late afternoon, i cant sleep at all that night
it raises your blood pressure, when i first started it my doc had me go to a grocery store daily to check my b.p.
and when i first started taking it i couldnt get it up either

On a semi-related note, All the King's Men is my favorite book of all time. The writing is incredible.

my buddy went to a psychiatrist and listed a set of symptoms of ADHD he memorized from wikipedia. few minutes later he left the office with a prescriptionin-hand.

Sorry boyo, but with 16 credits, a part-time job coaching football and basketball, drum lessons, sports editor of the campus newspaper, and intramurals I'mhaving a hard time managing my time. Yes, those are all things I want to do, and I also have shown big-time signs of attention disorders throughout my life. Ithink I actually do need this pill...

And I know that since I am an English major, I should be able to handle this junk. My forte is by far essay writing, not literature...
