Got the numbers off Wikipedia.

The actual numbers may vary but it gives you an idea as to how much is being spent just to get your $8-15 at the movie theater. Crazy!!!

Waterworld had to have been the worst investment of all time.

I'd go with King Kong...I couldn't even stand to watch the commercials.

I'm shocked that Wild Wild West cost that much to make

and I'm surprised that no Star Wars movies were up there

Idk. Why else would they go so overboard with the spending, is how I look at it.

I don't know what you're getting at. I'm just saying there's A LOT of profit being made off these movies, regardless of how muchthey spend to get an individuals 10 dollars.

Hmm...I don't know about that POTC figure.. since both parts 2 and 3 were filmed at the same time, there had to be a lot of overlap of costs. $300 mill isa pretty high estimate for one film.

Waterworld???? Eww...
Surprised QoS is on there. Don't remember that many mind blowing things effects wise in that movie.

armageddon? only good thing about that was the song that made all girls cry

How much did Titanic make again? Probably triple that amount it cost to make it.

I'm pretty sure they know most movies make good profits regardless of how much is spent, like you say. But even you gotta agree that with thebigger the budget, the bigger the buzz and that in itself is enough to make people go see them.

They spend tons and tons of money on all this advertising, on trying to get the best special effects, the best actors, the best anything really. The costs forthese things do have something to do with us in those movie theater chairs.

I really don't know all the ins and outs of why so much is spent but I can gather enough that it does have something to do with them trying to get me inthat movie theater and eventually, dvd sales.

Look at this list of the highest grossing movies ever. Most of them sure as hell aren't mid-budget films. I think the cheapest one out of all theseproduced was Jurassic Park and its gotta be every movie studio's goal to make with a success story like they did by cranking out all that money so they canget the critical success and eventually the gross revenue will catch up to the buzz.
