I mean we have had guys advocate for a guy is barely a starter, and a backup plan at center (Ezeli) that has had 2 knee surgeries in a 3 year career, for well over $30mil a year.

The overwhelming majority majority of Laker fans don't want him. Even if they did, the guard list is too stacked and he's not good enough to garner improvement in the team to warrant a coaches' consideration.

Either him or Essential, maybe both did it a couple days ago. Top 20 PER or something in the regular season, catch and shoot percentages, etc.
Meanwhile that same guy has one of the worst PERs along qualified players at this point. And has been on a downward trajectory every postseason. You've also got Raptor fans that follow the team religiously, say those pretty stats that he does put up don't impact the team winning wise and are praying we're dumb enough to offer him a max deal so they don't have to deal with him anymore.

Gets to the line a lot. 3rd most in the league. Behind Harden & Cousins. Consistently does this every year.
Coverts at the basket really well.
Shoots above average from 14 feet in.
Around average from 15-19
Increased his efficiency by decreasing his 16 > 3P shots by almost 10% in the past year.
Catch and shoot 3s, he shot 42% up about 10% from normal, 20% when it's off the dribble. So clearly he has some ability to shoot 3s under the right circumstance. It's about keeping him from going full-Kobe, and be a catch and shoot shooter from 3.
Get a lot of motion in your offense where you get him open looks off the catch from 3, and keep his shot selection trending in the right way (cut 16 > 3P shots down more, optimally you'd want about 4-4.5 shots to be around 2, and make them 3 pointers or shots at the basket).
You then get a guy who is really near the top in efficiency for a wing player.
