So my parents were gonna get me some dell laptop or whatever but I decided to add in my $$ too

so I can can a mac.... but heres my question...

wtf is ram, hard drive, GHz, etc....

I could be wrong, but it seems like you want a MAC only because it's "fashionable." You're clearly not a computer person so why pay extra for hardware, on a mac, which you know nothing about?

We all start somewhere... You guys are acting as if you guys just popped into this world knowing everything about computers...

At least im trying to learn unlike most people who just buy it not caring about hardware, etc.

And I heard a lot about Dells/Samsung notebooks acting up quickly so i don't even want to get into that.

Go for the 8 gigs of ram (upgrade later if needed) for $100
and get the 750gb HDD and you'll be good.

What size are you going after? 13 or 15?

I was looking at the Macbook Air actually... a 13'.

But I did hear that the Air is just a dumbed down version of the pro...?

But all I need is a computer that's fast, dl music, internet browsing, notes, school stuff.

13inch Pro with 8gb of Ram.

Or just get the 4gb of Ram and buy 8 online to save some money.

Don't waste your money on a Macbook Air. You might as well buy a iPad if you wanna go that route.

Have fun.

Dude your SO getting a DELL!!!!
Macs ain't for the weak minded.

Macs are actually meant for people who don't know squat about computers. This is highlighted by the easy to use interface.

I own a Mac BTW

whats a good computer to have, as a basic computer that holds pics, schoolwork, and that has a cool musicvideo theme?

i'm also looking for a computer, and macbooks do seem legit, and it's compatible with my iphone so what could go wrong, than again, if i could save money i could deal with a whole lof ot saving time, and i want to use my old computer for music only, so basically a personal computer(maybe laptop) would be a good, just not sure what computer to opperate with

I copped a mac a year ago.

There is learning curve from a PC. So I would not get one right before school starts. I copped mine in the middle of the semester and eventhough I used to have a mac years back the learning curve was kinda hard. I had to learn the MAC and complete assignments. For the rest of the semester I had revert back to the PC at my office to finish assignments.

And they amout of porn i have watched on that thing would have crashed a PC.

You'll be fine with any of the models if that's all you want to do. Hard Drive(HDD) is how much your computer can hold, even the cheapest Macbook Pro model has 500 gigs so that should be enough. The Macbook Air is pretty weak though, so I would just get the Macbook Pro. The Air also comes with a SSD, which is good, but it's a small size(128 gigs for 13 inch) and you are going to have to pay a lot to upgrade it to a decent size. Also, the Air doesn't have a disk drive which can be annoying. The 13 inch Macbook Pro won't be that heavy, so just get the Pro in my opinion.

I just got the high-end 15 inch model, and it's sweet. This is doubling as my desktop though so I needed something strong. I'm sure there are a bunch of little nuisances that I haven't learned, but it's been like 2-3 weeks and I feel really comfortable with Mac already. I don't think the learning curve is that tough.

macbook pro can edit big music/video/picture files

the specs are more than enough for your needs

the current macbook air is great. ssd comes standard, which is a plus

dell is the worst

well, i've been researching this for a long time now, and i really do like the way mac is set up, is easy, i'm pretty use to it because of school, and I want to settle for this, but if there's something cheaper, and similar, than whynot. and look into it

Make sure you get applecare if you don't plan on upgrading for a while. Applecare is great.

I've had my mbp for 27 months without any major problems.

Also make have good resale value.

Just buy the top of the class one $. Since you already admit that you're a spoiled kid and you're only intend to buy a macbook so you can stay hip at school.

Just buy a PC, cheaper, better specs.

Use the rest of your money for foambz and snapbackz.

I'm sure a google search would've provided you all the information you needed. These are general computer questions, not just mac specific.

using a mac is so much better than a pc. outta here with that useless spec talk, dude doesn't even know what specs are. if you got the dough, get a macbook.
