Macbook Screen Pitch BLACK....please dont tell me its dead and gone

When i restarted my macbook this morning...it came on and i could hear everything working, but the screen was completely black...so i took it to the applestore and they said it could either be a cable that went out or the LCD screen has to be replaced...has thing happened to anybody else?

nope..turned that all the way up and it still didnt work
