Mannie Fresh speaks on Mac Miller & Mackelmore's success, says there won't be any record labels in 2

Record labels will always be there because artists need that promotion train

And every artist isn't gonna have a smash like Macklemore

artists are gonna be signed to companies to promote their products DIRECTLY instead of a record label, thats da future.

"whats a classic song? when a song is done in this era, ITS DONE"

damn mannie fresh just preached the realest **** :{

thats not completely true tho... for the most part yea but to say NO classic rap songs have been made in this era is ABSURD

Really all that's needed is for Hov to start a distribution company and for a company to handle promotion, and labels would be useless

The main allure of a label is promotion, major distribution (the ability to make a million physical copies), and to a lesser extent, the ability to say "Major Label Debut/Major Label Album" because being honest, iTunes only releases are still kinda only looked at as mixtapes that you gotta pay for . . .

There's been classic songs but when a song finishes it's initial run of buzz, it's done

Macklemore has a machine pushing him. There's nothing about hus movement that says indy.

he can rap and his songs are well written/produced but its like preachy pop rap...

cant hold us is my **** tho... i dont have it on my ipod or anything but randomly play it from youtube or spotify...

its been out since 2011 but they re-released it

used to play at finishline when i worked there

his flow reminded me of the dude who wasnt jay or kanye on "never let me down" (college dropout)

ill never rock wit his music heavy but he's not some talentless bum

regarding the indie ****... he could be indie and have investors (ie odd future)... or he could be signed and they're hiding it

who cares if they're banking more money per unit, hence what manny fresh said about going platinum on a major and having no money.

exactly.

so that clearly says more about the era than the music coming out...which renders the argument pointless, imo.

people are still making good, even classic, music...attention spans just seem to be shortening.

so everybody just get you an iPod and bump what you like for the next 10, 20, 30 years.

thats crazy to me. the record labels are tryin to trick ppl into thinkin that they hearin somebody song on the radio bcuz ppl like it and not bcuz of payola. same type sh*t as all those fake views the record labels bought on youtube ish is nuts
