Reread the rise of the Nazi party. It started in the 1920s. It took 20 years to implement the Holocaust, and many people AND leaders of nations approached Hitler with the same attitude:

"Oh, he won't try to go there"
"Oh, he won't invade his allies"
"Oh, he won't break up his treaties with European powers"
"Oh, he won't pull out of the Society of Nations"
"Oh, he won't go after the communists"
"Oh, he won't assign Jews to specific areas of German cities"
"Oh, he won't stop paying the German debt to the winners of WWI"

Meanwhile, Hitler was breaking every single norm he wasn't supposed to break, under the hesitant eyes of France and the UK.
It's not just the racism that gets Trump compared to Hitler; it's the fact that his movement is a cult in the same way Hitler's was; it's the economic policies that espouse the ideology that the USA can do all by themselves; it's the narrative that the US is alone in the world and against all other nations. You hold Nazi tenets with Trumpist tenets, and there isn't a lot of difference between the two ideologies.
