Yes, it's homework help but I'm really really stuck with this one (yes, I know I absolutely suck.)

How do I prove this?

i'm not 100% sure but...

cov(X, a) = 0 (covariance property) so maybe the a and b = 0 where as the X and Y remain as X and Y?

Use the middle formula.

Mean(X+a) = Mean(X) + a

Right?

Then plug in for (xi - Mean(X))*(yi - Mean(Y)) with X+a and Y+b so that xi is now xi+a and Mean(X) is now Mean(X) + a

i know that x bar is E(X) which is common in covariance but this looks like a regression formula with the sigma Xi - E(X) and i know that Sxy is common in regression too.

ill be dead honest I'm terrible with proofs, i'm actually doing a stats course right now thats 90% proofs and I'm struggling. it's like proving if this is a markov chain or not smh
