Suppose you can fold a paper 120 times (always in the same direction) how many creases would be left in the paper when you unfold it?

1 fold = 1 crease
2 folds = 3 creases
3 folds = 7 creases
4 folds = 15 creases
5 folds = 31 creases

Basically I need to come up with a equation that would allow me to plug in 120 to see how many creases it would have.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! GOOD KARMA!!!

6 folds = 63 creases
7 folds = 127 creases
8 folds = 255 creases

the pattern is every fold you multiply the last fold by 2 and add 1

double the previous answer plus 1

2(x) + 1

btw i suck at math so thats not the answer lol

You need to look at the rate of increase in the folds. once you figure out the patter you can make an equation.

Sure isn't. I'll give you a hint, think exponential.

^^^^^^^thanks for helping me but it still doesn't work because it would be impossible to keep doing the same until 120. I need to find an equation related to the input and not the output. Thanks anyways!

its 2^0 + 2^1 + 2^2 + 2^3 + 2^4.... + 2^n. You can write that in summation notation and put it in a calc easy.
