Yes/No? Why?

Besides potentially making history on the national level on Nov. 4th, Maryland voters will also be asked if they are for or against gambling in Maryland. Ihaven't seen this topic discussed in the forum, so lets discuss...

As the thread starter guess I should start and donate my .02centavos, I been saying "Yes" for the longest, as I read more into it, I'm becomingundecided but still leaning more towards "Yes". Reason is because if it REALLY helps schools, services(police, teachers, etc), reduces or keeps taxes the same (not increase which is what they claim will happen if slots don't get passed), THEN I'm allFOR IT!

BUT I really hope it's handle well and although govt. regulated that they don't slip-up. I wouldn't want to see slots on every corner, liquorstore (like some Keno stand), laundry mat joint, etc.. they should have "nice waterfront" casinos, dedicated areas for this type of venue. But thenwhen I hear that only about .17cents on every dollar goes toward the schools and services it makes me wonder!

I guess my stand is that at the end of the day Maryland Gamblers will go to AC, Dover, WV, etc to spend their money on slots might as well keep it here inMaryland. Crabcake, Football, and Slots??? THATS WHAT MARYLAND DOES!!!

Being that O'malley was my city's Mayor for 8 years..I KNOW HE'S SCAMMIN'..

I wouldn't say that it's a complete lye using schools as a reason. In Florida, the Lottery sponsors the Bright Futures scholarship, whichgives 75% off in-state tuition for a 3.0 GPA and 100% for a 3.5 GPA. Now I know the State of Maryland probably plan on implementing something like thisbecause they already have a lottery and don't have something like this. But I think if they really want to help the education system out this could have apositive impact.

I moved to FL last year and reaped the benefits of the Bright Futures scholarship thanks to the Lottery. As far as this Law goes, I can't say I'm foror against it.

I'm all for it if we can assure that the majority goes to the school systems. I'm also for the legalization of prostitution. Let's tax prostitutesand make mandatory regular health checks. *yes I'm being idealistic*

SLOTS AND SLUTS! FTW!

Still undecided.

I think the intent is good, but what seems to happen is that if something else goes wrong they take the money and put it there.

i'm still on the fence about this, im leaning towards voting no though because I really don't believe they'll use it for what they say they aresupposed to use it for

Originally I was for it but once you really look at it, I think imma vote now. I would like to win the jackpot thought.......but that's not happening sono.

I get the feeling that he's saying having slots is far from a serious issue, but people's "morals" and "ethics" are getting in theway for no good reason.

I say Yes. There is no moral issue people lie, cheat, steal everyday( example Wall Street). If the funds are going to schools then why not. We live in a nationof hypocrites, we choose to use morality when it is convienent for us.

He's saying its not that serious but thanks to a few folks that whine too much it's turned into this huge problem.

Gotcha- I just don't connect the two. However, I see your point about some people doing so.

For me, it's just not believing the money will go where they say it will.

Well being that O'Malley is catching heat for the budget deficit and other shortfalls in the Maryland economic system, I pretty sure he'll play thisone straight.

Money not going where it is supposed to and the poor people gambling their money away are the most popular reasons against option 2 at the moment and both dohave their points, but when the idea of slots were first introduced there was a HUUGE opposition from the religious right based solely on gambling beingimmoral which is absolutely silly

Some of yall funny... a day later after its been approve by large numbers too and are still saying "No"

I'm also glad bammas was reading and didn't pass the increase in telecommunication tax

Maybe if the "O" was a "U" more people would be For it, even those bringing up moral values and so forth.

I voted yes...thats atleast $400 million a year and plenty of jobs coming to the state. Hopefully they'll give it to the schools like they said.
