Andrew McCutchen - .333/.373/.476, 1 home run, 9 runs batted in, 10 runs and 2 stolen bases in 14 games

Colby Rasmus - .271/.322/.469, 7 home runs, 26 runs batted in, 28 runs and 1 stolen base in 59 games

There are plenty more (David Price, Matt Wieters, Tommy Hanson, Elvis Andrus, Dexter Fowler, Matt LaPorta, Travis Snider, Jordan Zimmerman, Brett Anderson,Jason Motte, etc.); I just didn't feel like digging up stats on all of them right now.

McCutchen and Wieters both hit their first home runs last night.

McCutchen has six multi-hit games, and at least one hit in 12 of his first 14 career games.

Hanson turned in a solid start today: 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 4 walks, 2 strikeouts.

Let's keep this updated.

Travis has a back injury, so he's on the DL in AAA.

Brad Mills just made his 1st major league start this year.

Unfortunately nobody told him that throwing you 89 MPH heater up in the zone would NOT work on major league hitters.

The phills got him for 5 runs on 8 hits, 4 walks in 3.2 innings work.

He could be nice, filthy 75 mph changeup and a big Barry Zito hook...kind of like Shaun Marcum.

also, there's SO much pressure on Wieters....I'm glad he got his first homer last night tho....hopefully he'll keep it up.

The 28 year old "rookie" Ryan Hanigan lead all rookies in BA and OBP, I believe.

Andrus is holding his own at the plate, changing games in the field... He has definitely exceeded expectations this year...

Derek Holland is STRUGGLING... You can see the pure stuff, you know it's nasty, but it's clear he doesn't understand how to pitch to big leaguersyet... Hopefully settling into a rotation spot and not being jerked around between starting and relief will help him turn the corner...

Granted there was hardly any buzz around him going into the season being that he only pitched in Single A last year. However, the 20-year-old Porcellosurprisingly made the Tigers rotation out of Spring Training and has pitched superb (7 wins and a 3.71 ERA in 12 starts including a stretch of 4 straightstarts giving up 1 run or less). With those 7 wins by mid-June, he has a considerable head start in the AL ROY race over the big name prospects, David Priceand Matt Wieters.

A student of Darrell Huff's classic "How to Lie with Statisitics" I see.

Fielder Independent Pitching (FIP) is based on HR, BB, and K. So it makes little sense to apply it to groundball pitchers like Porcello (GB/FB ratio of 2.02)because they're not trying to strike hitters out. You should know that given that Porcello's 56% groundball rate is right on line with Halladay'scareer average. If anything, Porcello has been been unlucky that 17% of the flyballs hit against him have cleared the fence. HR/FB% for groundball pitchers isusually below 12%.

It's a Fielding Independent ERA... Calculates based on HR, K, BB like Juan said...


If you're really that concerned about a 20 year old pitcher doing what Rick Porcello is doing because his FIP is a little high and he's not strikingmany batters out, you need to put the stats book away for a little while and go outside...

Thats obviously not what I meant, I just think he would probabaly be better off in the minors right now, the kid will be a stud, but they arerushing him for no reason.

FIP is awesome, specifically for fantasy baseball rarely ever fails.

People take one thing I say and are spinning it out of control, Rick Porcell is nice and will be a beast and it's pretty impressive what he is doing.
