I got a pair of '02 Trainer 1's on eBay, and after un-deadstocking them I undid one of the velcro straps and realized that the entire strap itself camea bit loose in the process. I realized that this was my chance to get rid of these straps entirely as the Trainer 1's are my favorite shoes, but I havealways thought they would be better without the straps. After carefully removing the straps, I got a leather punch to make two more eyelets for the laces oneach side where the straps used to be, and I have to say, I am very happy with the result. Tell me what you think:

niec job looks clean, but personally the strap gives it personality.... it makes the shoe wat it is...

^ yep I agree. Cyphil, I think you did a good job in removing/modifying the shoe, but like Air Max said, its the strap that makes the shoe for me, from both afunctional and aesthetic point-of-view. It was a big part in Tinker's design and so I guess, for me, its a bit of a shame to see it go. But if you'rethe one wearing it and prefer it that way, then thats all that matters.

I'm guessing you have a pair of Air Trainer 1 Low's as well?

That's a solid custom job. But yeah looks too bare without the strap. I guess that's cause I'm so used to seeing it there.

You performed a good job.
Some of the womens trainers used to come without the strap. So it's not so different for my eyes.
Hope you have another pair WITH the strap...

Nice job. I like them better without the strap. To me, if your not going to use the strap theres no point in it being there.
