Why buy jewelry though? There are other ways to portray wealth and status, such as nice cars, or a big house, other things which are more useful. Jewelry is the most useless article one could own, it does absolutely NOTHING

Why do you wear sneakers (by that I mean Nikes, anything flashy, limited, other than some basic simple kicks), if you do? If it's for yourself, jewelry wearers would likely say the same thing. If you're willing to admit that it's for others to notice, some jewelry owners might be willing to admit that too.Originally Posted by scshift
What's the point of wearing jewelry? Why do people spend so much money on precious stones and metals just to wear them around? Especially women?
In my opinion, it's not like shoes or clothes or hats where you can actually stand out and see what you're wearing. You won't really see the jewelry you're wearing, unless you got a chain or some bracelets or something like that. You aren't going to see your ear studs unless you're looking into a mirror.
I'm not saying people shouldn't wear jewelry. But I'm wondering why do people do it? Is it to impress others? Or to cover up an insecurity? Why do so many women love jewelry, does it give them a false sense of worth or something?

No, I don't see the point in jewelry because it has no use. You can argue that shoes, clothes, fast cars all are useless, but at the bare minimum they can do the same thing as cheap shoes, discount clothes and old beaters, which is be worn and used.Originally Posted by ScarsOrScabs

Regarding what I bolded: So basically you just don't see the point in earrings because everything else you can see without looking in the mirror. Jewelry is an accessory, people accessorize to add another element to what they're wearing, whether it's different shoelaces, a chain wallet or coin purse, a tie clip or pocket square, etc.
That bolded section was one of the dumbest statements I've ever read BTW.
