hey guys, i recently got a job offer at a place in the bay area (san mateo) and am probably going to be moving out there in the next month or so. i'm leaning towards living in the city and commuting to work, but am open to options. what's everyone think the best areas in the bay are to live? good neighborhoods in the city and stuff. im probably going to be renting a larger studio or 1 bedroom, but the job pays pretty decent so i kind of know what im getting into with the city prices.

Look into apartments in the mission district.

Good location due to the proximity of BART, lots of great restaurants, fruit/vegetable stands, white hipster chicks. Only downside I would say is parking.

BUTTTTT, I'd be way cheaper if you lived closer to work.

you should just live in san mateo, its a pain to drive back and forth plus youll get a much nicer place for the same or less

this. i also recommend checking out foster city, burlingame, or even millbrae. millbrae is cool because they have caltrain and bart in one station. caltrain also stops in downtown san mateo. if youre looking to hit up the city from time to time using caltrain or bart will help you avoid having to look for parking... well unless where youre going is beyond walking distance.

I would say find somewhere in South City/Daly City...Not too far from SF or San Mateo.

I agree, don't move to the city. The traffic on 101 or 280 in the morning adds a toll on your commute. Also you get my bang for you buck outside of SF.
