Hey yall I'm going to be doing an internship/field study in downtown LA starting in the middle of July was wondering where would be the best place to live?

I have a friend who goes to UCLA and was considering living around that area but I know with the commute and traffic it wouldn't be to convenient. What is the drive from UCLA/westwood/westside area to downtown looking like?

Where you decide to stay depends on how much money you're willing to spend.

the commute can be hit or miss.

i honestly cant tell you what the morning commute is like, but the evening commute headed West (from DTLA to UCLA/Westside) is not terrible, relatively speaking.

if i had to guess, id say its approx 45min+ 1 way in traffic from westside to downtown. where you are coming from on the westside (what freeway entrance) can also make a big difference. Westwood (UCLA) is a damn zoo around 5-6pm. I used to live about 2-3 miles from UCLA (as the crow flies) and avoided driving into UCLA at that hour at all costs. One time I wanted to head into Westwood Village and it took me damn near an hour on the surface streets. I honestly could have run there and back on feet in the same amount of time, with minutes to spare.

this is the best idea.

my father in law lives in arcadia and used to work in chinatown (downtown adjacent) and he would do this.  said it was very convenient.
