I've always wondered how producers hide the other parts of a sample when they're flipping it? Like how do you get the vocals so clear? I understand that there are tons of accapellas out there but I know there's a bunch of classic tracks that don't.

Depends on the program. But a general tip is to add a filter to the part you're trying to sample. I use Reason, so if I'm trying to get the vocals, for example, I'd use an "envelope controlled" high pass filter (which captures the high frequency signals). If you're working with digital samples (instead of straight from vinyl), its best to chop up a segment from a FLAC audio file.

Peace

^That, also there are ways of actually editing the waveform to take out the parts you don't want

I mostly just EQ it by hand, helps me understand frequencies better, somewhat.

I don't even make music but its a damn shame the music production tips and tricks thread that was stickied at the top of the forum for years didn't survive the transition. A nod to the old NT full of valuable information and users helping other users out.

I was listening to some song the other day and the sample came through and the vocals seemed so clear. I'm glad to see that you just kinda have to work with it and there's no magic *karaoke* button or something to push.

Word. I was just going to ask, where do cats find their loops besides "crate digging"... any torrents or downloads out there for essential hip hop loops/samples?
