Name Change ... how hard is it to do it

I always wanted to take on my mother's last name. Is it easy as chaning your name when someone gets married? Anyone one NT change their last name but notbecuase of marriage? I found the court I need to go to but before I go I wanted to see what I'm getting myself into.

I changed my last name because I converted. There is a fee, and it depends on the name you are changing (first, middle, or last)

I know it's a lot more work for men to change their names than it is for women (in the case of marriage). All I need to do is send in a couple pieces ofpaper and that's about it.

I want to change my last name. My biggest fear is getting all my bills and other things screwed up.

I changed my last name and took my mothers name. There was a fee, nothing major if I remember correctly. I think for some reason also you had to put it in thepaper for 3 weeks (forgot what the legal name for this was) in case anyone wanted to dispute it. Find the cheapest smallest paper in town and do it that way. Iwent to court, told the judge why and was done. You get copies of the legal document that says it was done (GET A GOOD DOZEN COPIES OF THIS-there is a fee forthat too but its not bad). Then I just called my credit companies (they require a copy of that court doc that says it was all legit) and from then on used my"new" last name for everything - applying for jobs, bought car, house loan etc etc.
