Idk. I just thought about that and made this thread.
I guess y'all can put other "wtf" lines from songs and such.

I hope for your sake you weren't sober when you made this thread.

why? that was stupid.
let a dead person live?
and why for my sake?
what'll happen to me if i was sober?
:rolleyes

it may be an oxymoron but it is also a figure of speech.

to "let someone live" means to leave them alone and not bother them.
in this case the person nas is reffering to is dead, however their name is still being readily discussed.
Nas would like you refrain from slandering their name and instead let their memory rest in peace

shall i explain further or is this sufficient?

If you want every phrase to be taken literally, then rap or maybe music in general may not be for you my brother...

a few posts up i explicitly express that's how i personally feel about this specific figure of speech. try again.

You're probably the one person on planet earth who didn't get what Nas meant though.

i clearly expressed that i 1. understand what the phrase means 2. understand what Nas meant by it 3. still feel like it's weird/silly/stupid to use that expression on a dead person
you can disagree with how i feel about the phrase.....but saying i didn't get what he meant or that i shouldn't listen to hip-hop if i take everything literally is lazy since i stated that i know what he means but my issue is with the fact that the subject is in fact dead.

just in case someone else decides not to read that

I know and knew when I first heard Ether that Nas meant for Jay-Z to keep BIG's lyrics, name, and legacy out of his mouth, but using the specific figure of speech he used was odd to me since BIG is in fact dead. The end. Shut up. or die. or both. [/COLOR]

but..you're a rapper..who's not half bad..how do you consider this a WTF line?

If you need to, consider it irony or a play on words.  Like J Cole Beautiful Bliss

"Sit back and watch your son rise [sunrise]
Kick back and know yo son set [sunset]"

Best example I could think of within 5 seconds.
