- man, ive had the Tribe documentary on repeat for five days now.

- i watched the Tribe MTV interview and read the reply online from Rappaport. put those two together along with the movie and i say Phife is too sensitive. yeah, Tip may be controlling...he may be an +*%*@@# or whatever, but he's doing it for the betterment of the group as a whole, he's not doing it to be selfish. and when Phife says he feels like Q-Tip thinks he's Diana Ross and him and Ali are the supremes...WELL YOU ARE!!  thing is thats not a bad thing. its all in how you deal with it. i mean, the flip side is Diana Ross wouldnt be Diana Ross without the supremes. they needed each other. everyone has to play their part. and i love phife a lyricist.

- however i do agree with Tip about wanting the movie to focus on the music more...giving it more balance. i mean the movie was only 1 hour and 30 minutes? and for a movie thats probably going straight to DVD and its target audience is a niche market of diehard fans? why not make it 2 hours? why not 2 and a half? why not 3? we were going to watch regardless.

.....favorite scenes? Tip showing us the sample for 'Can I Kick It?', Tip showing us the sample for 'Lyrics To Go', and Trugoy's honesty of the whole situation

....my favorite quotes from the movie:

Q-Tip:
Sophmore jinx? %#%% is that? im about to go make Low End Theory

Q-Tip:
Damn? they like this, wait till they hear Bonita....

I don't think Brand Nubian was Native Tongues.

Appreciated nonetheless.

Throw up some Chi-Ali!

Nice post. I'm a big fan of The Native Tongues. Those collective groups made that feel good/kick back music and I appreciate that.
They most definitely carved their place in hip hop. I don't remember Brand Nubian being part of the click. Were they? If they were my fault.
That Buddy track still goes hard to this day. I'm talking about the remix, that cut is like 7 minutes long.

Alright, they had to have been included later on. I definitely don't remember the Beatunuts or Leaders being in Native Tongues back in the day. I know Leaders got down
in Scenario, but I don't remember them being in the click like that. From your list I remember the Jungle Brothers, Tribe, De La, Chi Ali, Black Sheep, Queen Latifah, and Monie Love

I knew Beatnuts were sort of extended fam. Maybe Brand Nu's the same.

What an ill squad that is.

....yeah, the Beatnuts were news to me as well.

- man, so many emotions come back as i watch the documentary and listen to the music

Of course the Native Tonhuges were started in the spirit of Afrika Bambaataa....One of my favorite songs of all time...

This song is somewhat new but fits what the Native Tongues were all about. Some of you youngins may not know how he is, but this song was a fitting tribute to DJ Grandmixer D. ST.

They got busy on this joint.

Yea Ruxxx, De La hit it out of the park with thier D ST tribute. When I first heard the synth sound D ST used, it sent chills up/down my spine. The yuku vid search wasn't pulling up the youtube clip, but it can be found here.

- yeah AOI part 3 was supposed to have a DJ theme to it, but it has yet to release. AOI parts 1 and 2 were fantastic albums, i cant wait for the third.

- DE LA SOUL is majorly slept on, its a shame

You know, it's kinda sad there hasn't been more posts in here which kind of makes a statement about hip hop today. I mean I'm kinda floored the ace hood thread has been hangin around the front page of the music section for a minute. I mean it's ace hood for christs sakes. Then the "does weezy still have it thread" is still alive... I mean does mario really need discussion other than why he kind looks like Chris Rock? And what exactly is the dream? LOL. Any really kim kardasian is hot & proly the best backside in the history of backsides, but does a discuss of her music really need a thread? I'm just sayin man... I don't know man...Kinda weep for the youth today...

Havent gotten around to watch the doc. yet.

Had no idea about BN, but The 'Nuts been "un-official members" for a while now.

That collective was simply amazing!

That "J Bezz Comin' Through" instrumental is legendary in NY.

They ran that %%%% back so much on NY radio in the 80's, %%%% was ridiculous. Red Alert I'm sure.
