NBA and NCAA discussing new age rule (2 years of college before draft)???

I didn't read through the whole article above, but there is one thing I think they've got to do along with this rule, that I'm not sure whetherthey've done or not...

If they are going to make a 2-year rule over here though, they've got to impose a corresponding age limit rule for International players... The typicalcollege sophomore is 20 at the end of the Spring semester, so you've gotta set the age limit there for kids from overseas...

I wish they would let players come straight from hs all this crap is dumb. You can't force players to make money for the NCAA for 2 years on the way to theNBA.

I see players going overseas or to some minor leagues for two years , then hitting the league

thats what came across my mind. no player will risk an injury without making money.

And one thing's for sure...this goes through and we'll see a lot more Final 4's like this year

they should be able to be drafted but make them play in the D-League for 2 years before they can step foot in the NBA.

The NCAA kills me. Of course themselves and the top conferences (big east/acc/big 10/big 12/pac-10) are going to push for this, if anything it just'builds' up more excitement and it can only mean more revenue for them.

I don't understand that the NBA has been trying to advance it's minor league system (the NBDL), if they draft kids right out of high school they canbring them up though that farm system. They don't have to play in the NBA right away, they can take a season to develop in the smaller league. That way ifan organization doesn't think the player they drafted is ready they can go work on the mechanics of their game before stepping on an NBA floor.

I'm really not that sure on how I feel about it. The way that college baseball does it allows kids to go out of HS or goto college and play for at leastthree years. In college basketball the players whose future is in question are not given the option to leave for the NBA out of high school but then have tospend one season currently possibly two if this rule passes years in college. I think that its unfair from a constitutional stand point but from a selfishpoint of view it makes college basketball more competitive. This could also benefit a number of schools who tended to stay away from recruiting 1 and doneplayers.

EDIT- There is a NBA/NCAA news conference on ESPNEWS right now...

I really wish they would promote the d-league first before the NCAA. Maybe farm some prospects out like baseball.

Guys played for years and still made it big. I doubt anyone will go overseas for a long time.

SMH at saying Kobe wasnt ready for the NBA.. Dude was a great Bench player... Playing behind Eddie Jones and Cedric Ceballos.. 2 all stars. Once they weregone.. Dude was a all star the next season and started developing into the Best in the Game today.. Add TMac to that list and Take Kobe off

I think this rule is great.

#1 college basketball will be more exciting, teams will be together a lot longer...you won't make a quick run and then say..."well he's is gonnabe gone in one year"
plus these kids need more than 1 year of college ball to be more mentally and physically ready for the pro game

#2 the NBA will not have such a gamble when drafting unproven young players....remember kwame brown dominating his area....but the biggest defender was6'6....not very impressive
And it will serve teams a lot better, because you won't have to pay this huge amount of money to a lottery pick who isn't gonna contribute much becausehe's not ready (Andrew Bynum)

There has really only been 2 straight from HS players who were stars immediatly...KG & Bron
The opposite ratio shows it takes about 2-4 years for these guys to get ready for the league game....so what better way to have them prepare, then playing thecollege game, and not rotting away on the bench or some useless NBDL team

They missed their chance for this.... Who wouldnt have wanted to see LEBRON in college ball?

Dumb rule...players association WILL not agree to it. Stern needs to moves on to more important topics...next

Understood. But...

Not Ready.

NOTE: This has nothing to do with his physical capabilities. But more of his mental capacity.

Nah KG wasnt a star right away.

The 2year rule will eventually enhance interntional baskteball. The scouts are going to look down on a players character for him going oversees. Now smart guyswill go to college because its better comp and its closer to home.

Kobe was the only dude who wanted to take those shots in the last moments of that game.. Van Exel,Ceballos,Jones,Byron Scott, all could have called for it. Butwho stepped up.. a 18 yo Rookie.. and Yea he airballed.. Bad. But he took that experience worked hard from prob the day after that game and turned into From that airball in 1997 Kobe has gotten better Every Year..

I'm not doubting dude's skills, nobody can. But we're talking about his rookie year, and he wasn't ready. Del Harris knew it, Jerry West knewit, Derek Fisher, Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel, they all knew it.

the best guys arent going to qualify academically for 2nd term

not saying theyre stupid but they are just at school cause they have to be

I wish some people would stop using that excuse "Well, they should at least have an education" when they try to justify the players staying inschool. It has nothing to do with the NBA corporation *caring* about the welfare of its players or the NCAA *caring* about its students...its all business andall $$. They're just doing what they feel they need to do to protect their investments...
